I'm fishing for recommendations.

I'm not at all positive that this is in the right subforum for this thread, but it had to go somewhere.

I used to read The Progressive, but it was too reformist for my tastes. I read Counterpunch online, and I like the content that Monthly Review has, although I read that online as well.

I actually think that the Red Phoenix is pretty good over all though personally I find the ALP a bit to dogmatic.

Actual paper-wise, I have a subscription to the Industrial Worker. Otherwise, I just read online articles and lots of books.

Workers World.

Even though I like some materials more because they're more intellectual (eg. monthly review, etc.), Workers World is very good in terms of what it covers. It is news and (often very good) analysis for a working class audience.

Regularly:

TAZ (former city newspaper of Berlin, in the wake of independent media popping up all over Germany; not revolutionary, but covers a wide array of issues) - daily
indymedia - daily
Die Zeck (newspaper of a local squatted social center, with info on the local Autonomous scene) - every month (published only once a month)

On occasion (usually I check through the contents and if there's interesting stuff I get them):

World Socialist Website - every once in a while has quite comprehensive analysis of political trends and such
Direct Action (periodical of the FAU)- usually has a lot worker struggles, work place rights and union rights related stuff)
Neues Deutschland (newspaper of Die Linke) - occasionally can be acquired for free at political events)
Wildcat (magazine leaning towards Autonomism/Operaism, former city newspaper or Karlsruhe) - whenever theres something interesting on it
Arranca! (magazine leaning towards Autonomism/Operaism) - whenever there's something interesting
ak - analyse und kritik (newspaper leaning towards Autonomism, part of the iL) - whenever there's something interesting

Liberation Newspaper.
Occasionally, International Socialist Review will be carried in my local Barnes and Noble and I've flipped through that a few times. It's decent.

I am going to look into subscribing to Granma.

From the US partisan press, Socialist Action is probably the best paper. It has a good core of authors - particularly Gerry Foley and Andy Pollack - and it does serious, in-depth analysis of foreign policy and domestic questions. I've also subscribed to the Freedom Socialist for years, and on and off to most of the other partisan papers. There are a few I've given a miss entirely - RCP's Revolution, the ISO's Socialist Worker, and some of the more obscure Maoist papers - but I've given almost everything a fair read. Most don't do the greatest job of analysis, I think Liberation (PSL) or Justice (Socialist Alternative / CWI) are good sort of "middle of the road" examples of that. For instance, I do read Liberation but don't usually get much out of it. The literary output of the PSL has actually gone downhill pretty far since the monthly magazine Socialism & Liberation ended and they switched to a biweekly paper (Liberation) with periodic journals (Socialism & Liberation).

In terms of partisan magazines, the ones that are worth following are the International Socialist Review (ISO) and Against the Current (Solidarity). Both have a lot of weaknesses, due to the politics of the groups that put them out, but they both have usually one or two really interesting things an issue plus good (but not great) book reviews.

From the non-partisan press, every US revolutionary should read Monthly Review. Sure the economic analysis is shaky and the politics are hit-and-miss, but if nothing else it is doing the best, most in-depth ecosocialist theory in the country. And while I am against the MR school of economics, they're generally factually honest and the articles are well researched and worth reading even when you don't agree with them. The Nation is a left-liberal rag that periodically has absolutely tremendous pieces of investigative reporting (Chris Hedges' recent article on Camden, NJ springs to mind) but, you know, is left-liberal at best. Z Magazine has some decent reporting, and good features from time to time, but its politics are dodgy and seem to veer between anarchism and vague "progressivism." It's definitely lost some of its clarity in recent years. In These Times used to be a solid social-democratic biweekly but is now an unreliable left-liberal monthly.

Newspapers: The Socialist Worker, The Guardian and The Independent (the latter two arent strictly Left Wing but have the odd Left leaning article)

Magazine: The New Statesman (again not exclusively Left wing, but has some very good Left Wing contributors like Laurie Penny)

Just got a copy of the Monthly Review in. I love how small it is; I love the formatting in general (though a few photos would be nice).

In general, Socialist Worker, International Socialist Review, Labor Notes, Left Turn, Against the Current, and whatever I manage to pick up at actions - usually Workers World since there is a pretty active IAC in Atlanta.
