exageration on title but anyway

Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y released a song called Huey Newton recently

fe4Vfe2EAIk

I like the song, but as u can tell it has zero to do with Huey Newton and the BPP etc

So some have criticised them like this guy

It ironic though, this guy is accuses them of not knowing about Huey etc, but i read up on him and he seems like the kind of "cultural nationalist" the BPP were against

Anyway Curren$y from the tune had this to say (not a serious response, but hes funny as always)

What peoples opinions on this? is it right to use the song?

I dont care, i like the song regardless of the name

I was gonna do a thread about this song (not the argument around it, didn't know about that) earlier today, but I opted for E-40's 'Practice Lookin' Hard' instead.

Anyway, I just think any hip hop song that samples Toto's Africa is ace.

Well, I would be inclined to agree with the "cultural nationalist" I guess, I mean if the song has nothing to do with Huey, why call it that. It is kind of disrespectful. Although, there's no way I'm gonna watch that dude ***** about it for 5min.

Also, as far as Curren$y's comment goes - "steaming broccoli." That shit's funny.

Huey Newton's one of the icons and heroes of black america, he represents a few things, one of them being the rise of the ghetto lumpen. It is a shame that his revolutionary ideas are not fully appreciated, and the criticism in that 2nd video is correct. But at the same time, the song title shows that huey remains well known and thats a great thing, it will probably cause people to look him up and learn a thing or two (the criticism video has 9500 views).. I like the song too, even though its misnamed, and while it can be criticised as reactionary etc it should also be seen as a symptom rather than propaganda piece.

A bit the same when Royce da 5'9" did a song called Malcolm X, it was a disstrack against D12 which had nothing to do with politics either.

I can't really be bothered to care that much. I guess it's kinda dumb, but I still like the song.

EDIT: Skimming through the 2nd video. "Some of you rappers are COINTELPRO agents." Oh boy.

It is disrespectful, these guys are fucking clowns. No other way to spin it. Really? Using "We have the right to defend ourselves" in response to getting busted for weed? Maybe if you had any semblance of a political analysis and program to go along with complaining about police oppression, but no, you're mad because you can't get high without people bothering you. Fuck that, no sympathy from me.
