JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- With orders for the evacuation of an illegal settler home in Silwan pending, right wing MKs and an accompanying delegation entered the East Jerusalem neighborhood in a show of support.

Officials from the area's Wad Helwa Information Center said the MKs were from the orthodox Shas party, and were accompanied by a heightened police presence in the sector, which saw streets cut off, checkpoints erected and tensions rise.

Arguments from residents not permitted to enter the area, and stone-throwing teenagers saw violence erupt in several parts of Silwan simultaneously, local officials said, adding that Israeli police started using tear gas and rubber coated bullets.

By evening, six were hit with the bullets and dozens of others suffered the effects of tear-gas inhalation.

Light clashes broke out the day before, when hundreds of officers were deployed allegedly awaiting orders to evacuate a settler home Beit Yonatan, built without a permit in 2003 and owned by the right-wing group Ateret Cohanim. Reports indicated that orders to evacuate the home would be implemented simultaneously with orders to evict the home of Abdullah Abu Nab, which settlers have claimed belongs to Jewish groups.

Children in the mostly Arab neighborhood threw stones but no major clashes were reported.

During the clashes on Sunday, Suweiki brothers Feras, 25, and Anan ,15, were detained and held overnight. A court hearing saw the two released on 1,000 shekels ($280) bail and placed under house arrest for three days, their lawyer said.
