This is a thread where if you want to find a certain kind of artist or want to get more into a certain style of music but need help at it, you can ask for recommendations.
To get this started, I'd like to get more into ska-core, like Choking Victim. Any recommendations on that?

They've got two albums out, both available by torrent. FTA could be considered a really good ska core band, but they have many styles.

Good idea. I'd like to put out a call asking for recommendations for good Italo.
The 'Disco Discharge' compilation series is wonderful: http://www.disco-discharge.com/ 'Euro Disco', 'European Connection', and 'Euro Beats' are the comps you'll want for Italo (plus similar stuff from across Europe).
The greatest Italo / Cosmic DJ is probably Daniele Baldelli, and recent interest in Italo has led to him working in new mixes of classic stuff. 'Cosmic Step Two' has just been released and it looks great.
Italians Do It Better is a great American label that deals with Italo-influenced music from the States. Glass Candy, Chromatics, Desire, and Nite Jewel I recommend in particular.
This is a great store: http://www.soundsoftheuniverse.com/browse/?l=85&s=1
Italo / Cosmic disco is pretty wonderful.

Oh and of course La Dispute's Vancouver and the TA/LD split.
I'm looking for some Grindcore with traces of Screamo, Powerviolence or Post-Hardcore, United Nations style:

Here's a list I came up with. The genre that most pertains to the band, is the category I placed them under.

Textbook Traitors
The Now
The Assistant
Hassan I Sabbah
Cobra Kai
Reversal of Man
Mara'akate
Shikari
Usurp Synapse
Screamo
Jerome's Dream
Takaru
You and I
Circle Takes the Square
Heaven in her Arms
Killie
Metalcore
Snoras
Seeing Means More
Curl up and Die
Post-Hardcore
Cortez
Poison the Well
Grindcore
Daughters
Power Violence
Corn on Macabre

I'd hate to be "that guy" but all those bands are screamo. "Emo violence" is a terrible term that was originally a joke, but if you are to use it in a serious manner, I would recommend using it for these very selective few: In/Humanity, Palatka, Eurich, The End of the Century Party. It was coined by Chris Bickel (In/Humanity) to jokingly refer to the fusion of his band's style of power violence and emocore at the time, and they shared a similar style to many of their Southeastern contemporaries such as those previously listed. I have no clue why people call screamo bands emo violence... most likely due to "screamo" becoming a mainstream word (see: skramz )
Anyways, genre-nerdiness aside...
Yet Humanity Lives On for his Touche Amore suggestions:
- Comadre
- Four Hundred Years
- Yaphet Kotto
- Please Inform the Captain this is a Hijack
- Bread and Circuits
- Former Members of Alfonsin
For Widerstand's recommendations of screamo-grindcore-fusions (more often to see Screamo incorporate grind then vice-versa)
- Reversal of Man
- Phoenix Bodies
- Combatwoundedveteran
- Bucket Full of Teeth
- Usurp Synapse
- Jenny Piccolo

How bout some recommendations of third-wave ska? I'll just preface this by stating I'm looking for the less well-known bands, not stuff like Streetlight or bands of similar popularity. I like them, I just know of them already. International ska would be awesome too.
Also, I'm looking for any folk singers who carry on the tradition of Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan.

Defnitely check out Irie Revoltes. Leftist ska/raggae/dancehall with lyrics in German, English and French.
Other than that there's a somewhat left leaning ska band from my former town, called Yakuzi, they're not terribly original, but enjoyable.
Oh and there's a band called JinnyOops!, which make awesome hardcore/ska. Japanese band, props go to Kitsune (I believe?) for posting them on here some time ago.
I assume you already know Bandits Of The Acoustic Revolution and Operation Ivy.

Last time I read anything about folk, The Tallest Man On Earth was often compared to Dylan.

Yeah, I know of Bandits and Operation Ivy. I actually think the acronym for Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution is hilarious, botar is to throw away in spanish.
Thanks for the recommendations.

COIL, early incarnations of Current 93, SPK, Nurse With Wound, Einsturzende Neubauten, D.A.F., Clock DVA, etc.
Minimal wave / coldwave are underrated alternatives to anglo-American post-punk / goth. Cold Waves and Minimal Electronics and The Minimal Wave Tapes, both released last year collect up the best of those genres; cold electronic music from France / Belgium / Italy. It's great.
Zola Jesus is a current artist drawing on industrial, post-punk, minimal wave, goth, etc. and her music seems to be quite good.
