This is all that my book mentions (yeah I read ahead to the revolution part already :D ) "He was assisted by Ernesto Che Guevara (gay-VAH-ruh), an Argentinian who believed in the need for revolutionary upheaval to change Latin America." and "Guevara began a guerrilla war in Bolivia but was caught and killed by the Bolivian army in the fall of 1967". And that's all they mention of him. At least it mentions him  I guess. Two fucking sentences.

MUAHAHA, I made him get mentioned! We had to dress up as somebody in histroy and give a presentation, know who I picked? CHE! That gave SOME awarness to him. Someone raised their hands and asked me..."Wasnt he in a rock band?" SO I just yell "NOOOOO!" tisk tisk...such strange ppl these days.

I haven't seen Che in my history books either. That's pretty funny because Che has to be one of the most influential people of the 20th century. My personal theory is that the capitalist who write these books are afraid that if they release to much information on the heroism and bravery of Che, people will start to think and reject capitalism.

No offense but if you live in the US (I assume you do, correct me if I'm wrong, I know we've spoken over AIM) it's kind of naive to think they'd cover Che. Elijah was dead on when he asked if you expected glorification of him or the Revolution. I'm waiting for the day Che is unfortunately dubbed the Osama of the 50's and 60's. Take my highschool US history book for example, during the 50's and 60's what is covered? The British invasion and the Beatles. Janis Joplin to. And this is during a period where it was painfully OBVIOUS! No mention of Chile, but a whole section on Woodstock. Nothing, so if you expect a nice little piece on Che and all of his great accomplishments in ONE OF OUR BOOKS?! Why that just wouldn't be very American now would it? :D

You can't be expecting much. In the UK, the syllabus allows you to state an advantage of a government being democracy with no explanation required of why this is and you get the marks. So I stated it as a disadvantage of a government because it makes people submissive and it is a tool of the Capitalists etc. with quite a bit of explanation. I got 0 marks. What does that tell you? The teaching syllabus is biased all over the western hemisphere. I doesn't stop me complaining though. Our book never mentioned Che either. It made sure to mention the Liberal reforms though. Who the fuck wants to know about the Liberal reforms?

Why would they mention che?
They are rised to hate socialism. why would they discuss one of its hero's? their could be a chance that students like him and try to learn about him on their own.

reason the more to talk about ché in your history lessons, he isn't in mine too, but mine solely acts about the middle ages some years after that

zonk i wish i cold quit but if you havent noticed in a capatilist society you need schooling because you are more highley credited the reason you learn things like math is to expand your mind and its mental capacity and to help you understand the world around you anyways if you havent noticed can the people that arent communist hold a good conversation without using slang nope people that are political active have a bigger vocabulary

"Guevara began a guerrilla war in Bolivia but was caught and killed by the Bolivian army in the fall of 1967".
And when they do mention him, they get it wrong. It was the CIA that gave the order for him to be executed.
However, if Guevara isn't on your syllabus or in your exam, there's not much point in mention or learning about him in school.

In American history books, if that is what you are reading, you'll find alot of disheveled facts. I suggest reading "Lies My Teacher Told Me" it'll give you the real facts about American history (and somewhat abroad) that you text book won't. They don't mention Che, but it's still worth a read to exducate yourself further.
As for Che being in textbook in history classes. Well, most capitalist countries view Castro and Guevara as enemies becuase they are against the capitalist system. Che is probably being kept out of textbooks so that kids will not get ideas at a young age and grow to keep his legacy alive. The "leaders" want you to learn what THEY think is right, not what is true in some cases. PEACE

I don't have history until next semester, and I'm not sure if we'll be covering the 1950's-60's in grade 10 socials, but if we do, I'm going to make a point of quizzing the teacher on the subject to see what kind of right wing bull-shit he'll be spewing to the niave, under-informed youth of Northern Canada. None of my friends knew about Che until i started talking about him...it was sad. They just take in whatever the teachers tell them, without question. I find it really upsetting. oh well, viva la revolucion! I will be sure to educate them in such subjects!

well I don't think I ever came across a school book that has any insight on Che and none of my teachers spoke of him.
But that doesn't stop us from educating ourself though. Basically, when I was in school the majority of stuff were self-taught since most teachers don't cover everything, or some just don't know much.
