Think about the money you spent on presents, Christmas travel, a tree, and a meal. Now think how many vaccines for African children that could have bought and how many would not have died from preventable deaths had you donated that money instead. Merry Christmas.

Excuse me I'm a bit tipsy, but might I suggest that you focus on something more productive for the movement such as not being a total asshole/fail/toolbag? Don't be "that guy".

Wasn't planning on starting a debate here, but I have to interject - I really hate this awful self-effacing type of point. I'm not going to feel guilt that i've bought my family and loved ones presents for christmas simply because there are others in the world who are less fortunate.

I get your point, but we should define ourselves by objective economic analysis, not 'guilt'. That's liberal nonsense.

Other than that, to the OP: we should remember that, whilst some of us ate well and in comfort today, around 30,000 children probably died of poverty-related causes and 1billion+ people went hungry and lived yet another miserable day on less than $1. This is the fault of Capitalism, not the fault of me buying a present, and that we should continue the battle against this brutish system after our Turkey has digested.

You said "guilt" not me - you just inferred guilt. I was just pointing out the facts. If you want to call it guilt, that's projecting a liberal ideological spin onto it.

On the other hand, if in fact, you think that preventing children dying abroad is more important than you having a momentary good time, then your choices are inconsistent with your beliefs. This isn't really ideological, its just observational.

Speak to Ebenezer Scrooge. He'll give you a tip or two.

Making yourself look like a jackass by trying to purposefully invoke guilt from people who are probably unfamiliar with revolutionary ideology does nothing for the working class except alienate potential supporters with a typical angry-teen nonconstructive statement.

People who have the comfort to enjoy time and tradition with their families should be reminded that the less fortunate are suffering regardless of the season...but to be prompted to action. Try and participate in a soup kitchen, start a toy/clothing drive, or contact an organization trying to help those less fortunate instead of thinking of ways to simply vocalize the ugly truth. It's not a whole not, but it can mean everything to even just one oppressed individual, and the revolution isn't here yet. So be a good leftist and use your social network outlets to set a good example instead of ineffectively pissing people off.

Merry Christmas.
