My name is James, I live in South Carolina.
Rofl In my particular city I AM the left. Most people here consider communism evil and portray anything(or anyone)left as a communist spetsnaz terrorist idealogy, that's at best. Some usually compare it to a nazi idealogy.
I consider myself a Social-Democrat, althrough I could portray myself as open to ALL leftist ideals.
I became a leftist after reading through my history book in elementary school and reading alittle about communism, and expanding from there.

I can just see the rage and screams of "communist propagandizing in our schools" of all those right-wingers already
Welcome.

Welcome :)

I suppose because you're to the left, you're unaware, but social-democrats (by today's standards anyway*) are not revolutionary, but reformist. In other words, they want to make piecemeal changes, by pressuring MP's or by entering coalitions themselves, thus are willing to take responsibility to run capitalism. These parties, like Labour in England, have carried out very neoliberal policies over the past 30 or so years.
For this reason we restrict social-democrats to the Opposing Ideologies forum.
That said, you do seem to be confusing communism with social-democracy, so I'm leaving it in the middle and do encourage you to ask questions in the Learning section :)
* "Social-democracy" is a somewhat confusing term historically as before 1914 the Marxist movement was synonymous with the social-democratic movement. Only at the outbreak of World War 1, when the rightwing of the then social-democracy voted for the war credits in parliament, did the leftwing (importantly Lenin and the Bolsheviks) argue for a radical break with the rightwing and a few years later would found the third, communist, international.
