I've been a member for a while now, but haven't posted anything so far. I figured it was time to post something.

I'm a recovering liberal (Obama finally pushed me over the edge) who is trying to learn more about Marxism and other forms of revolutionary leftism, but I have no idea where I stand or which tendency I most identify with. I'm mostly here to learn.

Hello, welcome.

As for tendencies, don't worry; learn as much as you can about what you can. There's no rush to label yourself.

Happy learning

Please do post more and ask questions in our Learning section as that is a good way to learn.

If you're a recovering liberal, I suggest you look into Trotskyism, particularly the ISO strain. It's an easier transition than going from the Democrats to Marxism-Leninism/Maoism.

Don't trolololI'm not trolling. I legitimately hope that's a joke and-

1. He's not suggesting that someone use an ideology as a transition to another ideology. State capitalist theory isn't meant to be a "transition ideology" (there is no such thing) for liberals to eventually find their way to Marxism-Leninism. The suggestion that someone should take up any ideology with the intent of using it as a mid-point between one ideology and another is rubbish. An ideology is a set of ideas which comprises what we believe in- anyone who can hop from one tendency or ideology to another is either not well informed or lacks conviction. The former is someone who shouldn't even claim a tendency, and the latter cannot be relied upon to even remain on the left.

2. I honestly do hope that if he MUST take a tendency, which I would prefer he didn't, he finds one that is actually functional.
