Ok, I've occasionally gotten the argument against socialism: "Someone is also going to be the boss or want to take power"

Now, I'm sure it's possible to eliminate hierarchy, but how would you go about preventing new masters from replacing old ones.

Kind of goes along with the Orwellian critique of the USSR found in Animal Farm. How to keep the next Stalin from taking power.(sorry Stalinists)

I can only speak as an Anarchist, you might want to ask other tendencies to explain their perspectives, they probably have different opinions.

Well, first of all, the idea is to have a purely democratic society, real democracy, that is, in the political sense and over ones' productive life. I would say that it's just a long, continuous process. Unless we have some kind of Technological Singularity or something, that totally transforms the human condition. It's just a continuous process of identifying forms of opression and dismantling them. In our present society, authority is seen as inherently legitimate, that's perverse. We need to always look at authority critically, any infringement on the rights of others should have to meet a burden of proof that it is, in fact, legitimate. If you consistently take that approach it should always lead in the right direction.

Ok, so always challenging legitimacy authority and changing of attitudes in general about authority. Thanks for your input that helps.
