This is why a lot of musicians support illegal downloading. They make a lot more money with merch.

When I went to Streetlight Manifesto Tomas Kalnoky told everyone to buy t-shirts because "you can get the music for free".

Unless you're Metallica, no musicians don't get much money from record sales. I thought this was well known?

Yeah the vast majority of musicians make jack shit off their music. Those who "make the big time" are a minority, and even then only get a small percentage of their own record sales (maybe 5 or 10 %). If you're making music for the money... you're in the wrong industry.
