View Full Version : Reactionary Chatter XVI - Kicking it old school.
Jazzratt
21st December 2010, 14:23
Yes, that's right. In my infinite wisdom and magnanimity I, chairman Jazzratt have decided to give you, the valued subjects - er citizens - of The People's Democratic Republic Of The Opposing Ideologies (Gulag) a place to chatter mindlessly.
Basic revleft rules apply, sexism, homophobia, racism and other forms of discrimination will earn you a one way ticket to bansville and this thread is subject to closure at the whims of the Administration team.
Finally, this thread is not an excuse to post off topic stuff in the general OI forum and is in fact designed to cut back on that, so to this end "mindless" chatter includes your bad taste in beer, whether or not you prefer Star Trek or Star Wars and whatever other off topic details you feel the need to post.
Additionally I now reserve the right to change the title of this thread to "cake and arse party" as soon as you pondscum start the back and forth bickering.

Module, while your posts in this thread are something of a change from the usual bickering, one upmanship and generally cockshaftery that happens in this thread it probably deserves a thread of its own. Would you be happy to have Your posts and the replies to them in this thread (and possibly the last one) split out and given a proper thread?

J'accuse! This is blatant favoritism and discrimination. What's he got that we lot ain't got? (Don't answer that.) But all of our subjects deserve their own "proper threads."
We need one now for my pewter mug, one for the Lt.'s latest training mission, one for Mari's ongoing feud with the Portland police, one for Bud's "Finding Your Own Inner Che," one for Havet's "Americans really do make better music," and one for Comrademan's recommended fishing lures for 2011.

Which called its video 'neuro funk', and dances in it. Many hate followed in his comment section, and a user asked if someone could remix that video with an actual neurofunk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neurofunk) track behind it.
So I did.

I know that the Utah Raptor fossils indicate an animal larger than those in the mov..documentary Jurassic Park. I still think of several feathered carnivores with hooked 'toes' and the desire to kick me as terrifying.

The velociraptors in Jurassic Park were made up- they weren't representations of historical dinosaurs, they were invented for the film based on a combination of raptor dinosaurs.

Hey, you Italians have Santa Claus over there or is it all "holy Stuff? "
It depends.
San Nicola is the 6th December, but he's not really Father Christmas as such. In some places kids get presents on Santa Lucia between 13th - 20th December depending on locality. Babbo Natale is Father Christmas but he's a rather recent import. "La Befana", the good witch who comes at Epiphany traditionally gave sweets to children. The Christmas Tree is another import- the main tradition here was the Presepe or Nativity, people stay up until Midnight on the 24th when they put Jesus in the cradle/crib and then open their presents. The traditions vary from place to place- I'd say it's quite religious still, especially in rural areas and Central-South.

The room color is all off--I did a time exposure to get the tree lights and everything kind of turned green in the room.
I never cut down my own tree. When I was a kid--we had a silver one. Later in NYC we used to buy one from the chinese bodega owner--and carry it home down Broadeway--that was kind of cool.

So (in the days before the ACLU) the teacher asks little Johnny "what do you do for Christmas" and Johnny answers, "we go to Mass and then sing Christmas carols."
The she asks Billy, "we go to services and then we sing Christmas carols."
Then she asks the Jewish kid, David, "much the same thing, we go for a drive and sing Christmas carols."
Then the teacher asks, "David, why would a Jewish kid sing Christmas carols?"
David answers, "we all get into my father's Rolls Royce and go to his toy factory and look at all the empty shelves and sing 'What a Friend We Have in Jesus!'"

The real story of Yankee Doodle is actually quite funny. I heard about it on an HBO special called "History101; based on a true story." By some comedian. I can't find any clips now but basically;
The Macaroni club was a club in London where men would dress up in their fanciest dress and go to discuss fashion, etc. It was known at the time as quite a "queer" place (even tho some of the most influential people were there ) and was frequented by many americans.
So basically, Yankee Doodle is a hate song, accusing americans of being gay (like americans do to french now ) that americans just adopted into their natural structure.

Greetings, fellow atheist. This is Chris from OkCupid. I know from hard experience that non-believers have few holiday entertainment options:
-Telling kids that Santa Claus is just the tip of the iceberg, in terms of things that don't actually exist
-Asking Christians to explain why they don't also believe in Zeus
-Messaging cute girls
Towards making that last one more likely for you, we've devised a special wintery match algorithm, and we'll be sending you a seasonal special someone each day for 12 days.

You, with your understandeable suspicions of technocracy and transhumanist movements, are going to be absolutely scared to shit by what might be coming in the future. I know I am, and i'm optimistic about the future!
And the weirdest part is, youre not gonna be scared because it might bring wars, annihilation, completele biological extinction, and so on. Not at all. Just the sheer amount of breakthroughs, and what its going to mean for all of us, is absolutely staggering, mindblowing and <insert synonymous adjective here>.
And the scale of it! Mamma mia! You might just see the whole website as a cleverly thought science fiction story, but thats far from it. Most of the predictions are based on current trends and current predictions. Shit, we can get a very small glimpse of what the world might look like in the 24th century. How cool is that?!

Most reactionary comment ever?
Throughout history women have been the subject of oppression by men for their generally weaker physique; whether it's rape or limiting the access of economic empowerment, men have always been there, openly accepting their duties as the patriarch whose way must be law. We should work to gradually eliminate women by a reproductive selection process when such a technique becomes more readily available. This will eliminate the female sex and thus get rid of sex-oriented oppression.

No, not at all. I would switch it because it can become confusing for other users. I also like to have a unique avatar. I browse through photos often (because I like photography) and if I see something that matches my mood or what I'm thinking about at the time I'll put it up.

These are Inca stones that clearly show men interracting with recognisable dinosaurs.
They are very controversial, some may well have been faked to sell as artifacts to tourists but there remains the problem of the ones that were carbon dated to up to 2500BC, some during La Conquista and some to the Middle Ages (European timescale).
Of course the chances of a neutral opinion have been ruined somewhat by the fact that the hardcore scientific community probably shit to themselves about stuff like this and automatically write it off as fake whereas the nutcase creationist group take this as hard evidence- a neutral opinion is difficult to find.
Nevertheless at least a documented history of them is to be found, albeit on a creationist site...
http://www.creationists.org/living-dinosaurs-dr-javier-cabrera-and-don-patton.html
In 1955 Charles Hapgood, respected Professor of Anthropology at the University of New Hampshire, concluded an elaborate investigation including extensive radiometric dating. Interestingly, his work was supported by Earl Stanley Gardner, former District Attorney of the city of Los Angeles, California and the creator of Perry Mason. Hapgood responded to charges that Julsrud manufactured the figurines, by excavation under the house of the Chief of Police, which was built 25 years before the Julsrud arrived. Forty three more examples of the same type were found, including dinosaurs. Three radiocarbon tests were performed by Isotopes Incorporated of New Jersey resulting in dates of 1640 BC, 4530 BC and 1110 BC. Eighteen samples were subjected to thermoluminescent testing by the University of Pennsylvania, all of which gave dates of approximately 2500 BC. These results were subsequently withdrawn when it was learned that some of the samples were from dinosaurs.

As for the dinosaurs-on-vases thing, I have a simple theory: People didn't recently start finding dinosaur bones, it started centuries ago. Then some people made up bullshit stories. "Oh, that huge monster skull you found in the valley? My grandpa totally killed that beast with his bare hands. Me and my bros are strong warriors, so you better don't mess with us!" That's also my theory for legends with dragons.

I think that stegosaurus has hollow-ish bones like birds (and most dinosaurs) and also a p. big canal in the hip of stegosauruses where scientists think they had a glycogen body like birds.
But I don't know if stegosaurus looked like a bird either way. I know the raptors all did, at least.

A policeman dressed as Father Christmas nabbed the man in a sting operation as he was coming out of a shop where he had extracted some protection money.
"Father Christmas" dropped the bag of sweets that he was giving out and arrested 37-year-old Salvatore Politini, believed to be a member of the Santapaola mafia clan, in police footage shown on Italian television.
The officer had been watching the shop in the city of Catania for several days, dressed in his Father Christmas costume, Italian news media reported.
The shopkeeper had been forced to pay the mafia a protection racket of around 260 euros (340 dollars) every month for 10 years.
The man arrested was carrying a ceramic plate and a panettone cake -- believed to be payment in kind from other extortion victims.

Nice Christmas Eve dinner of fried oysters, french fried onion rings, cob salad with crab and blue cheese dressing, red beans & rice with andouille sausage, and Heineken. Hot, fresh crispy french bread on the side with whipped butter. I bet I'm the only one on the place that ordered fried oysters today. Glad I did. The fry cook really knew what he was doing.
The restaurant thankfully does not serve Heineken at its recommended temp of 45º F. (I don't care HOW much more flavor beer has when it's hot, God meant it to be served cold).
Nice argument with family member afterward that won't soon be forgotten. No winners there. :(

Che a chara

Hopefully a quiet and sober Christmas for me. Can't be fucked we it all anymore to be honest. There's a ton of sport on TV to keep me occupied over the festive period anyway :D

I just got through Ozzy's autobiography and have been thinking about how his book has clarified some points of British usage that I had seen around here but was uncertain how to translate. From context provided by the book, I think I now know of the following equivalencies:
fuck all = "not a fucking thing" (we usually say "not a damned thing," but never "fuck all." )
taking the piss = "fucking with you" (one of the rare instances where the american equivalent is slightly more vulgar)
cheers = "thanks" or "no problem" (I have heard "cheers" it all my life but always thought it just meant "to your health." Ozzie was talking about his mother making him a bad sandwich for a school lunch one day that had eggshell and cigarette ash in it: "Cheers, mum." [Cheers???])
get to fuck = "get outta here" or "come off it." In the states, "get to fuck" means "have the opportunity for coitus."
fucking hell = "Oh, fuck!" or "Christ almighty!" but more self-pityingly. I think.
fuck me = "I'll be damned." We say "fuck me" too, but it means something else altogether in the USA, about like "Hey, I'm real happy for you; don't worry about me, asshole."
slag = promiscuous woman. "Slut" I guess is the American equivalent. I always thought slag had something to do with scrap or residue near a coal powered steel mill or something.
Right = "okay," not "correct." (I think "right" is slightly more confrontational, but I swear I can't tell, especially if it's in writing. Ozzie got moody one night and shaved his head to get out of doing a show. "But that shit didn't work with Sharon. She took one look at me and said, 'Right, we're getting you a wig.' " Ozzie is in love with his wife, Sharon, but kind of scared of her. I would be too.)
fuck off = "leave." That's what we mean by "fuck off," too, but in the "go to hell sense." I think the English version is much more casual, but not sure.
Sometimes the English mean go to hell too when they say fuck off: Ozzie proposes to Sharon: "Will you marry me?" "Fuck off." "Please?" "No." "Please?" "Alright then, yes." Americans usually give up I think after the first "fuck off" they get from a woman.
bog = toilet
wind up = this either means "to con," to "tease", or "to really piss someone off," maybe all three, I can't tell for sure. Wind up is what we do with ... actually nothing anymore. we just change the batteries like everybody else.
leg it = run
shag = fuck. Yeah, I knew this at least from the Austin Powers movies, too, but thought it was obsolete. The term, I mean.
beer = fermented malt and hops that hasn't been in the fridge nearly long enough. Okay, I made that one up.
Okay, so what else do you guys want to know about my hero, Ozzy Osbourne?
[Response from the Americans: "fuck off!"]
[Response from the English: fuck off!"]
A rare instance of linguistic unanimity.

His music sucks but I care about him slightly more than I cared about Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was into the negative range on my carebear-O-meter.

IDk, early Sabbath is pretty good. Ozzie just got too gimmicky when he went solo. But sabbath was revolutionary for its time.
On MJ tho, "Do You Remember" is one of my favorite songs of all time. I'm not afraid to admit it. :blushing:

In one week and four hours I will be in an alley downing 40's with my friends and little brother. In one week and five hours, I will be seeing Wu Tang Clan live.
