Does anyone here believe that any of those three countries are still socialist economically and haven't been betrayed? I just got into an extremely heated argument about them and I'm wondering, is continued support of them simply due to the hallucinations of orthodox marxists or is it pretty much accepted along the left?

Most of us sane beings understand they aren't anything close to Socialism.

However, there is a handful of the Communist right that believes they are Socialist due to Rhetoric and enjoyable national choirs.

Putting socialist and Marxist references in a constitution, and having a red flag doesn't make them socialist. I know people (errr... TVM) will argue about China (cappie), but it's pretty clear Laos and Vietnam are capitalist. Vietnam is the world's other sweatshop, besides China. Both countries ('nam and Laos) were bombed so heavily the only way to not endure the extra extremely heavy burdens was to become the world's asshole (which Vietnam did in the 80s). It's surprising they're even doing as "good" as they are now considering the huge setbacks they suffered.

Plus, while we're on the subject of Laos:

Everything that I've heard about them suggests they have drifted pretty far from any credibly socialist position. I would not characterize an economy rife with yawning inequalities of wealth and oppressive sweatshops, centered heavily on manufacturing cheap goods for capitalist states, as socialist.
