Dear Warden:
We understand that Mr. Gonzalez Claudio has been in administrative detention status at FCI Bastrop since his arrival there on October 29, over one month ago. We further understand that the conditions in administrative detention are quite punitive, including very limited contact with family and virtually total isolation from human contact. There is absolutely no justification for maintaining him under such punitive conditions. We urge you to place him in general population, and to do so immediately, so that he can enjoy a four day family Christmas visit--- as opposed to one day in administrative detention---, so that he can bathe daily--- as opposed to three times weekly in administrative detention---, so that he can phone his family and friends using the 300 minutes per month allotted to prisoners in general population--- as opposed to the one 15 minute phone call per month allotted in administrative detention---, and so that he can participate in the programming available and the human interaction in general population--- as opposed to being locked in his cell 24 hours a day in administrative detention. At 68 years old, with Parkinson's Disease, and with a projected release date of October 2012, his placement in general population is most certainly warranted.
