Whats the big argument for having all commodities free of charge in Anarcho-Communism as opposed to "to each according to his contribution"?

I'm probably wrong. But maybe something to do with post-scarcity economics is a factor.

The fact that everybody who doesn't work dies?
Unless you mean 'to each according to their work, except the children, old people, people who are sick or otherwise unable to work, who get their sustanance from some sort of taxation system which will be rather hard to administer in an anarcho-communist society as we don't believe in y'know the state and wages 'n'shit'.
Generally I think it's because 'to each according his need' in a post-scarcity world has a chance of working while all of the alternatives (labour-time vouchers or whatever) seem to inevitably open the door to the return of both money and the state.

socialists who advocate remuneration for work effort usually imply this as a requirement only for adble bodied adults, that is, within a certain age range.

there still must be a governance system and a system of economic planning in libertarian socialism. it's not some individualistic utopia of "anything goes."

We can get rid of deprivation (being's basic needs not being met) but scarcity will always be with us because it's part of the human condition. we only want to work for a limited amount of time per week. and if we spend that time making X, we ca't be making Y.
prices are necessary to have a way of measuring costs and benefits. you cdan't have a planned economy otherwise. you won't be able to ensure that production is accountable to the population, to what they want.
and this does not require a state.
