A document from 1943 shows that the Dutch government in English exile held a deeply-seated anti-semitism. According to the text, people who decide to assist in the hiding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_individuals_and_groups_assisting_Jews_duri ng_the_Holocaust#In_the_Netherlands) of Jews often find themselves betrayed by the Jews themselves, out of cowardice. It therefore recommends against including Jews in the government.
Part of the text reads:
For a long time, there have been reports emerging from the Netherlands about the disappointment experienced in the hiding of Jews and securing their assets. What often occurs is the betrayal of Christian hosts and other helpers and the reporting of stashes of jewels and the like, to save themselves or because of cowardly behaviour. This creates a growing anti-Jewish mood, completely independent of German propaganda.
It recommends:
I therefore have the impression that naming Jews in higher official government positions in the Netherlands will not be appreciated and will not promote trust in the government.
It is unclear whether this refers to the government in exile or to a hypothetical post-liberation government.
The text was written by an envoy at the Dutch embassy in Bern. It was forwarded to the government in exile. The Foreign Minister there forwarded it to the Justice Minister in London without question.
