I know that some anarchists were pacifists like Tolstoy and Gandhi. I'd be interested to know how they proposed that we abolish hierarchy and private property, overthrow capitalism and state authority and equally redistribute wealth and property (i.e. boot the rich out of their mansions) without using force or violence. It just seems like circular logic to me, but then I am totally ignorant about anarcho-pacifism and would like to be informed :D

Gandi was not a anarchist first of all. He was not against hierarchy or private property and was pro capitalism.

Gandi was a hindu which meant he believed in the cast system. A system that believes in classes and that when a person is born into a class they should die in the same.

Not to mention he was a nationalist and racist.

One of the greatest writers ever.

Lenin absolutely adored him as did the progressive part of the Russian working class.

Thats good enough for me.

Resurrection is one of my favourite novels.

Maybe this (http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Kingdom_of_God_is_Within_You/Chapter_VIII) would be a good chapter to start with, it being the central thrust of Tolstoyan thought...

Yeah sorry I didn't mean to say he was an anarchist - just that he was influenced by Tolstoy's writings.

Huh? When did I say anything about Lenin?

Another good text can be found here. (http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/To_The_Working_People) I'd say it gives a pretty comprehensive, though also concise, overview of Tolstoy's social outlook.

Apologies - I did not read your post properly first time round. I thought you were discussing Lenin and not Tolstoy (as opposed to Lenin's view of Tolstoy).
