sorry if this is the wrong category, i had a hard time trying to figure out the most appropriate place for this. i was just wondering what everyone on here thought about lee harvey oswald and jfk, and about the assassination of jfk. thank you:)
(personally i don't like jfk very much, and as for oswald i dont really know what to think because i have heard he was everything from a marxist radical who wanted to prove to russia he was good enough to be a russian basically all the way to he was just insane and it had nothing to do with politics.)

I find Oswald a sympathetic person, though not a person to emulate, for the most part. A tragic figure, a man dominated by his flaws and insecurities, and, finally, a dramatic illustration of the way history can be moved by commonplace events-- i.e., if Oswald's attempt to reconcile with his wife on the night of the 21st had been successful, it is, in my opinion, almost certain that the Kennedy assassination would never have occurred.
By the way, Oswald wasn't trying to prove himself to Russia so much as he was (arguably) trying to prove himself to Cuba. Oswald had spent time in the USSR and ultimately decided that it was not to his liking. After growing disillusioned with the Russian system, his idealization of Cuba and Castro increased. In the months leading up to the assassination, Oswald tried various schemes to enter Cuba, and was frustrated.

JFK was a war criminal and bourgeoise trash, I won't be shedding any tears over him. Oswald was obviously crazy. Not sure what else you want.

Assasinating one of the most powerful and important world leaders is something of a big deal...

No. Wilkes boothe had a definate motivation for shooting Lincoln, i.e. he was angry at the CSA's defeat, Oswald was more of your emotionally-troubled lone gunman type.

Hence the "wannabe" part.

Probably for the best I was woken up at 6 am. I keep on losing my train of thought. That's because 6 am is like 2 or 3 hours after I usually go to sleep.

I think I remember when I read some selections from his journal, he didn't like the Soviet Union due to it not having night clubs or bowling alleys.
Past that I can't make an opinion of him.

I remember reading that as well. In my opinion, Oswald was young and had stars in his eyes about the USSR. Also, he thought he could become a leader/celebrity/person of importance by defecting; his "Historic Diary" includes accounts of his giving speeches that never actually occurred, etc. Instead, he found himself working in a factory, and was presumably a bit of a social outsider as he was in the U.S.
I don't believe that Oswald's identifying as communist was entirely cynical by any means, but I do think it's clear that he saw his pro-communist activities as a path to recognition as a great and respectworthy person.

that "shit happens" was probably the biggest influencing turn of events that happened in the entire 1960's, if not the entire 20th century. It made Johnson president, who ended up becoming one of the largest warmongering tyrants the 20th century has seen, what with the millions dead in Southeast Asia and all...but you probably thought that was a minor event, didn't you?

I know but I might as well have been typing in my sleep. I probably should not have been posting while barely awake.
