Met an Argentinian yesterday and it was a shame. We were talking for a while, and he told me that he doesnt have any sympathies for latin america or the latin people, he feels ashamed and say that his ancestors were Italian, he only had the bad luck to be born in a place like argentina. He is married with a German girl and he says that Germany and Norway is the best. He only listens to doom metal and no, he doesnt like Che..
I know that one should be respectful to others, but I was just wanted to yell and tell him to get the fuck out of "my" shop where Im working. I got disappointed. Thats the first latin person I have ever met that feels ashamed about being latin and that doesnt like the continent and moreover doesnt like che..
But then again, perhaps he was just ironic and I missed it all

Being Latin-American I'm not surprised by that...unfortunatly alot of the ppl are polarized of being super right or super left. For example...their is some Latin guy trying to get on the Supreme Court and the Democrats don't support him so the Rep's say that its because they're racist and blah blah...when actually he's Honduran but also super super conservative....its really unfortunate cuz all of the Conservative latin americans I met are worse than American conservatives...they even treat immigrants and poor latin americans worse...

I find it a real shame that Che isn't liked by a lot of South Americans. He tried to free them from capitalsm, poverty, hunger and racism and still they hate the poor guy!
that's really fucked up!

That is really fucked up. To support Pinochet and Dubya is the worst thing I could ever have thought about. Scary thing that when Pinochet lost the last election he was in for something like 40 % of the voters.. scary mother******..

Argentina is his motherland so I should think he enjoys support there most of all the Latin American countries, with the exception of Cuba.
I get the impression very often that Che is considered a respectable figure of South American history. Those who are not particularly interested in politics respect him for being a pan-American patriot.
I went to a South American event (I have forgotten the name now) that was taking place beside a Korean Friendship event and they had a lot of Che items for sale, we talked to them and although they didn't know much of socialism they had great praise and respect for Che.

Wow, I think we are generalizing a lot here. I am Argentinian and I can assure you that most of us are not "super right." I could criticize Americans in the same fashion and it would be a lot more accurate. Yes there are rightists, as in everywhere, but Latin Americans who support figures like Pinochet are all neocons and considered traitors to Latin America (both by the extreme left and the extreme right).

I am writing you from Argentina right now, and I can tell you the average argentinian is an ignorant thief who always feels someone is stealing him. The average argentinian is not fascist of capitalist, but still he is racist (especially with Brazilians, Chileans and Bolivians), he is some kind of stupid nazi kid who cant accept that all the problems in our country is his fault. He loves stereotyping people who is different to him.
Che is admired by many here but most of the people that could have lead the left to change history was murdered by the military dictatorships we had, and he is not very popular really.
Fascist and neo-liberalism ruined the country but people still votes the capitalist liars.
The Argentinian fall in the 90s with the Menemist lie which tried to show people that we were in the first world, now all the petty bourgeois think we are the best in the world.
But it seems there are more leftist than pure fascists (most people with a fascist type of thinking vote the capitalists, but dedicated ones seem to vote the few fascist parties)

All of you are wrong. I too am half Argentinian and half Uruguayan, and I can tell you that Che and the Cuban revolution are extremely popular in both nations. Did anyone see what happened when Fidel Castro came to Argentina to inaugerate Kirchner? So many people went to hear him speak, that there was no room inside of the place, so they had to go outside!
Of course there is alway's the idiotic petty-bourgeoisie who is obsessed with fashion (mostly in Argentina) because Argentina is still considered an 'almost first world' country.

im glad that were wrong cause Che deserves the recognision in his native country.
i know that Che is very popular in Uruguay because when i lived over there everyone praised him and that was where i first discovered his books and speeches.
but when i was over there alot of Argentinians i knew did not like him, but they had all been brought up in very right-winged families so that was probably why.

And the petty-bourgeois thing is a sad true.

that's quite impossible since argentinians feel like they are superior to the rest of latinamericans just because most of us descend from europeans(like 90%)and lots of latinamericans hates us because they say we are arrogants (unlikely, a whole nation of conceited people).
Im sure he is more popular in Cuba, cause poor people here(%60) dont know about him or about socialism, they just try to survive.
