This is a very interesting lecture I found while random youtubing

DJePGD7D_RQ

It goes into important questions of Marxism, mainly of course if it is a Theodicy. I was unfamiliar with the term, but from what I gather from the lecture it represents a theory that accepts "evil" as a "means" for good in a way (although this may be a bit simplistic).

Tied up in this are of course the questions of the necessity of capitalism to exist to achieve socialism, and questions of historical materialism.

Great talk, I recommend it to everyone.

He's sounding senile.

He's sounding senile.
Yeah...what? He sounds like an older man, but that's not the same thing. I was expecting much more halting speech, based on your comment, but his eloquence and oratory skills in this video are enviable for almost anyone.

Others lately have said I am mean to the elderly (I've been around them a lot). Life's been pretty stressful and folks of his generation and ilk have been part of that.

I felt annoyed when he said Williams wasn't a Marxist. I think he's probably right. And who cares? Does it matter?

I'll give it another go. I quite enjoyed his little book on the meaning of life. A former student of his (and pal of mine) tore it apart based on some reference to Darwin.

For folks more interested in TE his book Ideology is a stunner. The 2nd edition is dedicated to a friend of mine, Norm Feltes.

Enough personal stuff! On with the real struggle of doing something Revolutionary somewhere!

It's sounding good. I was mad about something else.

If nothing else, Prof Eagleton always has the best opening gags.
