Just reading his wikipedia page following his sacking by Newcastle, and this linked off it:

Well he did write for the magazine. He was friends with people involved with WRP and did a column on after their persuasion. Also note that him, being the first black man who played for Irish national team, dealt with racism and far-right ideology a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if he genuinely holds those views. And the way he left the club shows socialist character. :)
But Bill Shankly put him into the shadow when it comes to managers who are socialists. Ah, great Chairman Shankley... ;)

Hughton is currently a Labour member IIRC. So don't get too excited
