Any English person who even claims to have any sense of social awareness must be told about this event ASAP as I think it is every bit as important as the anti-war demos we saw earlier this year. If you live in Southern England and haven't heard of it, shame on you. Go here and educate yourselves and stop wasting oxygen. (http://www.dsei.org)

Why are we concerned about disarmament?

I believe in Songun, army-first politics. I don't want imperialists with weapons and ideally I do not want any weapons at all. However, realistically weapons are needed to oppose imperialists. What we need to do is oppose imperialism, not the weapons they have.

Sorry mate but arms trade, as evil as it is, isn't my thing (don't get me wrong, I'm just trying to avoid spreading myself too thinly, we all have to prioritise), and also I'm at school during all the action so I'm useless.

I'll tell you why I'm concerned. DSEi sells weapons to the Third World. Not just a catapault, but tanks, aeroplanes and the like. Of course, the aforementioned states do not finance such transactions with pocket money, but they take it from their budget. Now, as you can imagine, the average Third World state's budget is not very big already, what with debt repayments and corrupt officials, but when a significant proportion of what is left is going on arms, something has to be wrong. Now of course the Chairman will have a different take on this, since Maoist China spent a large amount of its GDP on arms, but personally, I think it's disgusting. Millions, maybe billions of people are starving in the Third World yet we're content selling them guns.

Of course, that is not the only problem. Where do you think the Ba'athists, the Tablians and the Ayatollahs of this world get their weapons?? I'll give you a clue: they aren't from the arcades. Soon after we sell corrupt and repressive systems arms, we act surprised when they subjugate and oppress their people. This, to me, would seem to be the height of hypocrisy.

I would go on but I'm tired and hungry. This is all off my own head, and I'm sure there are better and much more obvious faults in this arms fair that I am missing. My point is simple: that if you were anti-war, you are anti-DSEi. The link is undeniable.

I see. I thought DSEI were simply selling weapons. I did not take a good look at the site. I largely agree with you.

I've heard of things like this before. I agree with you. I know people in the United States have been jailed for breaking into military facilities and sabotoging tanks, missiles, and other weapons.

Fair enough. I remember how it is @ Kings.

Personally though, I'm quite excited about this (http://www.destroydsei.org/action.htm). Of course, this has the advantage of not coinciding with the meetup on the Saturday. However, Saturday is the day of the main march on the ExCeL building.
