View Full Version : What are you passionate about?

Niccolò Rossi
4th December 2010, 11:10
Every one of us has things we are passionate about, things that drive us in our day to day lives, hobbies and interests that we sacrifice time and effort for. It also happens that all kinds of people have all kinds of passions and drives. I think this fact is what makes life so interesting and colourful.

It might be sport, or art, or craftwork, or literature, or music, food, family, etc. etc. etc.

So what are you passionate about?

Nic.

P.S. Also I assume political militancy is a passion for just about everyone here, so lets forget about it for a minute, shall we?

I'm fairly passionate about watching and collecting lost, obscure and B-grade films, specifically of the horror/exploitation genres (although I also watch horror films that are genuinely well-made). So far I've seen somewhere between 300 to 400 horror films, and an unknown number of obscure low-budget scifi, sexploitation, giallo, WIP films, "category 3 films", pinku eiga, "pinky violence" films, 70's & 80's action, Naziploitation and assorted other subgenres.

I don't think there is any reason to feel bad, we're just more boring than some people. (Maybe not as boring as Comrade Wolfie with his passion for star trek and digging up things that people threw away hundreds of years ago.)

Nothing really. Perhaps we have a different definition of passion, Nic. If I had to say one thing it would be art, as that is my greatest interest, especially literature (as that I what I hope to one day fail to make a living on). But it's hardly one of those all consuming things that I imagine when someone talks about a passion. Dunno, I suppose I'm the archetype of the apathy generation; I don't care too terribly about anything anymore.

Literature, definitely. Also music, and theorizing about more or less everything.

Punk rock

I used to be kind of passionate about that...not the culture/style so much (which always came off as kind of lame to me), but definitely the music. I still have a fairly large knowledge of various bands, mostly Hardcore...

As far as music goes, though, I've kinda switched to electronic genres. I'm not really "passionate" about electronic music, but it's something I've dabbled in. The subculture that's attached to it (or at least the stereotype of the culture that exists in my head) is also a lot more appealing than some other musical subcultures I can think of, namely punk and metal.

hmm, music I suppose - listening, collecting, playing, the history, the culture and whatnot - and also, like others have mentioned, whilst I can't really cook a great a deal, I love food. Other than that, I am passionate about film and litertature, poetry. And also people in general, but maybe that is cheesy and being passionate about people is often somewhat problematic, it's so easy to be apathetic.

Perhaps. I hope the word isn't too dramatic. I just mean things that you love. When you've had a hard day with work/school/family what is your escape, what cheers you up, what helps pass the time.

I mean if you don't love doing anything, what's the point of living? Everyone has hobbies and interests no matter how petty or silly they may seem.

noooooo not at all lol. I have yet to meet any women(or men) that are even close to my politics, in person anyways. I have a tatt of an Anarchist symbol though on my neck and sometimes it brings up discussions and I'll talk to girls about it and what it means. One exception I guess could be made with my x who after talking with her about Anarchism, she started reading into Emma Goldman and liking it, but I had sex with her b4 the politics came into the picture anyways haha.

I haven't fucked a girl based soley on my politics though, and if they were naive to do so because of that, then I wouldn't see that being my fault anyways.

It's hard to say. Maybe because I'm too young to be sure. What am I passionate about? Well, excluding politics, the main thing would be the world. It sounds like bullshit, but I have a burning passion for the smallest details in nature, especially. Anybody who's read Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard knows what I'm talking about. I feel that this world is extremely beautiful, despite the last 10,000 years of misery of our condition. Aside from that more general thing, I'd say music. Although I don't make music (wish I could but I literally have no sense of rhythm), music has gotten me through my lowest moments so far, and will continue to when I hit even lower ones. I can say music saved my life. So has literature, but not to that extent. (Although reading LoTR always cheers me up.) So I guess that's it.

i know, tl;dr

Perhaps we are similar in that respect, I've become more apathetic over the years.

However everyone, don't ever think I'll go the way of LSD or that other poster who turned conservative; I'm not exactly (or only) apathetic of left politics but more of the whole political system

History, writing and cooking are probably my passions. I build models (kits and digital); associated with this, I enjoy dabbling in engineering (how to build bridges using certain methods; designing houses and buildings; etc.) and mechanical physics. I'm fascinated by historical documentaries, especially if they involve military history.

I can't call politics a passion. I've been doing it too long for that. To me, politics is as much a passion as breathing. It's something I have to do, not something I choose to do.

A beautiful walk through the woods is very hard to beat, 'ay.. :)
Eh, I've done a lot of things in the woods.

sex, oral sex, setting my own hand on fire, getting drunk, getting high, making trails, crying, laughing yelling out foul mouthed language about random exes, telling exes to go fuck themselves, writing poetry, ohmygod! I almost forgot to mention being tortured.

Not all of those things were in the same woods as each other. They were definately not all at once.

I freakin' LOVE cricket, especially test match cricket. It's the closest thing I have to a religion.

Case in point:

Basically: Music, Sex, Love (both Guys and Girls)...
Although I don't really care for 'nature', so I'll substitute in Reading and Technology.

What! Come on mate, you even speak Italian so i know you know "il medico" means The Doctor.

Edit: Well, specifically a medical doctor, but it's not a hard leap.
