International Day of Persons with Disabilities Observed

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) — Disabled people had a joint gathering for 2010 at the Taedonggang Cultural Center for the Disabled in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on Dec. 2 to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Present at the gathering were Minister of Public Health Choe Chang Sik, who is also chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Federation for the Protection of the Disabled, officials concerned, disabled persons and citizens of Pyongyang.

Members of missions of international organizations, including the European Union Programme Support, diplomatic envoys and staff members of foreign embassies here were also on hand.

Speeches were made at the gathering.

The speakers called for developing the work with the disabled by strengthening cooperation with other countries and international organizations.

The participants enjoyed an art performance given by disabled people.

They also watched art pieces and handicrafts created by them.

Meanwhile, a table-tennis tournament of disabled persons has been held at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium.
