Hello!
I am writing an article about the photographer Alberto Korda and his most famous picture that of Che taken in march 1960, often titled "Guerillo Heroico". At the day it was taken (during the funeral ceremony ) I have read somewhere the Che had a soar throat. And this should be one of the reasons he only held a short speach that day in contrast to Castro.
Now I wonder is there anyone outthere that can confirm this? If so please send me an answers as soon as possible. If the source also is known this would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry Daniel I cannot confirm Che's sore throat, only that even in good health anyone's speech would be markedly shorter than Fidel's who is known to go on for hours.... I'm not even sure Che spoke at all that day - is it a crucial detail in your article?

It is not a crucial detail but interresting, as it can help to explain as much as possible about the background of one of the most famous pictures. So if anyone knows please write!
Curiousity: The article is based on one of the last interviews with Korda which I have here on videotape. He speaks a bit about Che on it.

Daniel I would check this out but I am pretty sure I read or heard somewhere that at that time che was under the weather with his asthma, so that could be a reason why he didnt speak for all that long.
Yeah your not half right Danton, Fidel could go on and on for hours.

Hi!
If you could out find for sure, this would be great! I appologize but what exactly does "che was under the weather with his asthma"? I simply don´t understand because of the language and that I am no doctor. Does it mean that the weather at the time (day) made Guevaras asthma troublesome?
Thanks a lot!
Sincerely

Che had really bad asthma which resulted in his family moving around a lot when he was young, It had something to do with the humidity (i think) that affected it, he had to take injections when he had one of these attacks, thats one of the reason why Che studied medicine and done research to cure allergies.
I will have a look for you Daniel and see if it is true he was under the weather during that day.

Some more information -> I source I read about this occasion says that the weather was chilly and humid in Havanna this day the 5 of march 1960.
(Unfortuneately I didn´t take note of the source but I think it was some article on some Che page.)

Sorry Daniel I had a search through my books and had a look at a couple of sites but I couldnt find anything to confirm my suggestion. If you havent done so already try and PM Malte or someone who is a Administrator and they might be able to help you.

Havn´t figured this out yet... Didn´t find anything in that relatively new biography that I can´t recall the name of know (by a journalist who had lived some time in Peru).
So if anyone figures this out and has a source it is still much appreciated.
I´ll try to see if I can get a copy of "Granma" from the 6 march 1960...Maybe that article can contain some information?
... No one from Cuba on this site by the way?

Thanks for all help, I have now got the answer to my question from another source. Che Guevara actually had a soar throat that day, and in fact he didn´t hold any speech at all at the occasion.
