I don't know how true it is- all smoke and mirrors- but I have heard allegations that would link Hamas to the state of Israel anyway.
The ambassador's comments are an acknowledgment of what any serious Middle East observers knows: Hamas has always been seen as a tool by which Israel could undermine the nationalist movement led by Palestinian Authority President and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Chairman Yasser Arafat. Similar statements by Arafat have been dismissed by Israel as "cranky" propaganda. In an interview with the Dec. 11 Italian daily Corriere della Sera, Arafat said, "We are doing everything to stop the violence. But Hamas is a creature of Israel which at the time of Prime Minister [Yitzhak] Shamir [the late 1980s, when Hamas arose], gave them money and more than 700 institutions, among them schools, universities and mosques. Even [former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak] Rabin ended up admitting it, when I charged him with it, in the presence of [Egpytian President Hosni] Mubarak.

Does the US or Israel NEED to respond? Nope.are you a isreali or u.s. spokesperson?'nope'.
so tell me why us or isreal shouldnt "respond"?
it took them years to even accept the PLO apart from the ususal dehumanizing of anything "palestinian".
the isrealis want one thing -all palestine and more land from there on(if they could)-talk of peace is just bs.keep fooling yourself about isreal

socalled "peace talks",going back to oslo in 1993 have only furthered israeli goals.
if there was real talks then the last state to be playing a role of referee would be the u.s.a
the resolutions of the u.n. and international law are the basis for peace talks.
until that ,the majority of palestinian people ,(half of whom live outside palestine)seem to support resistance.in all forms.

It really is a pretty funny game. The US and Israel paint Hamas as the "bad guy" and Abbas as the "good guy." Israel can paint itself as a "good guy" trying to make a deal with the other "good guy" but as long as the "bad guy" exists--they have an excuse for not bargining in good faith.
As long as Hamas is in charge in Gaza Israel has an excuse for its behavior and not much can be done about anything. So in a vauable way Hamas is playing into Israel's hands and serving Israel's purpose.
If Hamas disappeared Israel would have no other option than to negotiate in a reasonable fashion--or so it seems. My guess is that they would just find another excuse.

YOur guess is absolutely right, Hamas is'nt the problem, Isreal could just as easily paint anyone as the bad guy.
Infact Hamas is one of the only rational players in this "game," west bank might be doing better of economically due to not having a blockaid and not being turned into a prison, but all of their land is pretty much open to being forcibally taken by Isreali settlers at any time they want, also due to the military occupation Isreal can ultimately do whatever they want.
