What do you think, is Latte Macchiato a beverage especially popular with parts of the bourgeoisie?

In case anyone else needs to wikipedia that too. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latte_macchiato)

It doesn't even sound tasty, so maybe it's like some kind of status symbol because it's expensive and unnecessarily complicated to prepare. What's wrong with a good old black coffee without sugar anyway?

In the german wikipedia there is even a paragraph about the sociocultural significance of Latte Macchiato.

Maybe it's more significant in Germany? I've never even heard of the drink.

Hah, on my first day at the place I work on Saturdays my boss asked me to go out and get him a macchiato, plus whatever I wanted for myself (black coffee, no sugar). I left the place unsure about what he had asked for and had to spend a little time examining the coffee shop's menu before I realised, with relief, that he wanted a macchiato, whatever that was. When I was handed a large cup seven-eighths empty, with a thick, shit-coloured liquid at the bottom, I was certain that I had ordered him the wrong drink, but I returned with it anyway. He drunk it in one gulp and I was releaved.

So yeah, that's how I discovered what a macchiato is.

... good old black coffee without sugar anyway? This is the only acceptable way to drink coffee.

I used to drink my coffee black no sugar, but I prefer to add some sugar to it nowadays.

Macchiato sounds kinda nasty, never had it but might try it to see how it is

Red Eye's or straight shots of Espresso are good too. Even more hardy than straight cups of coffee.

In Australia, you can't even get regular drip coffee except from McDonald's. You have to get basically an "Americano" which still tastes decent, but just drives expenses up :(

In Italy, I don't think Latte Macchiato exist or is a regular thing.
However, Caffe Macchiato (or Cafe Cortado) I like.
