Hey, the comrade isn't in the US, so he/she doesn't know what this is about.

What this is about, is that US unions were putting in a big effort to get automatic union checkoffs. Basically this means that the union organizers can quietly come into a shop, sign up a majority of members, and get the union in the shop before the boss knows what's coming, instead of the way it's done now, where there has to be a vote after the union gets the members to sign up for it. The way it's done now there's plenty of time for the bosses to pressure the workers, fire them, delay a vote, etc.

Anyhow, US unions have been pressuring Congress to pass this law for a long time, with no success. And the bosses have been fighting it hard, as you see, with some success. Personally I think it's not going to do the unions any good anyhow, US unions are very good at representing the rank-and-file. They absolutely suck in organizing, and making it easier for them not to organize is not going to solve that problem.

Solidarity,

It's a website for a group operated by Richard Berman, a lobbyist and all-around despicable person who runs a bunch of other organizations/websites in support of the tobacco industry, the restaurant industry, even attempting to downplay the mercury levels in fish. He also fights on behalf of businesses against raising the minimum wage.
