So in my senior Government class we were assigned a project entitled "Presidential Political Party Election Project" we had to pick a party, the options were Constitution party, Libertarian party, Democratic party, Republican party, or the Green party.

Well by the time my group and I picked the only option left was the Republican party so we asked our teacher if we could be the Peace and Freedom party, she agreed.

So we have to write a persuasive speech, I feel confident that I can defend all the issues I need to, accept their stance against Capitalism.

While I know the problems with Capitalism, I don't know how to convince high schoolers that Socialism is any better. Any suggestions?

If you know the problems of capitalism, that's half the process. Discuss the problems in capitalist society and equate how a society that is fair and just to the workers will eradicate so many of our problems (unemployment, crime, malnutrition, rapid child poverty, etc.) The next step, I would assume, is to show the extra benefits would come to the world in a society that isnt based on short-term profits (tons of options: more time/resources into preserving ecology, curing diseases, more leisure, etc.)

If you get to have a lot of time on your speech, you can probably hit a home-run by getting to all the bases (no wars due to no more imperialist ambitions and ever growing markets, increased living standards, safe neighborhoods, more community involvement in projects, you get where I'm going with this...)

There are so many possibilities. Make it happen

Capitalism-production run by the few for the benefit of the few. Those who own the means of production control wealth disproportionate to their input to society.
Socialism-production run by all for the benefit of all. Everyone own's the means of production and thus early directly from their labor and no one else's.
