New guy here from Texas. Please don't hold it against me. :P
The basics: I'm 24, Played guitar for 15 years and I like putting together bikes. My dad is a Vietnam draftee currently in and out of a VA hospital for skin cancer, he was one of those kids that were exposed to defoliants now he looks like a zombie. My mother is a special education teacher. My mom was inspired by Marxist ideas in college(in the 1960's) to work with kids. My dad was taken straight out of high school to kill Marxists. This is were my interests and ideals originate from.
I've read a good deal of Marx and identify myself as some sort of Marxist. I've never fired any type of weapon but I feel that armed struggle can be justified but it is not something to plan or execute cavalierly. I'm not as eloquent as some of you, so you'll have to forgive me. I feel that we are fully capable of being good to each other. I'm bothered by pessimistic attitudes about social and ecological justice. I think we can do anything and we have to be the optimists. Pretty naive huh?
I'm unemployed. I just quit working as a cashier at a popular bourgeoise health food store after 4 years. I never felt good working in that industry, not as it is. At the top of it are a bunch of men getting rich while wages are decreasing, global food prices are soaring, land is being destroyed/over-tilled and migrant labor is simply expendable.. Exposed to dangerous pesticides etc. etc. To make things worse this industry has put on this new friendly progressive mask to fool it's workers and the consumer. I tried my best to stir shit up when myself and several co-workers were being dicked on benefits but I was retaliated against constantly, eventually we were awarded what under their rules we were entitled to. I can attribute myself to two people in management getting canned. Yada ya da yada.
I live on a friend's couch and do oddjobs for now. I'm thinking about taking a Spanish course at El Centro here in Dallas next semester.
Basically I registered at this forum because I would like to learn more and meet people who think and feel in a similar vein.
Sorry for the autobiography.
