Heya,

I have a coursework essay question relating to the progress of civil rights in America (particually how the supreme court affected the course of events.)

I was wondering if anyone here had any good books on the history of minorities in the US and their struggle for civil rights.

Thanks.

America During the King Years (three volumes) by Taylor Branch covers the period from 1955 to 1968 in depth and concentrates on the Black struggle.

Howard Zinn has some good work on the topic, and he participated directly in the Civil Rights movement. His Book, A People's History of the United States is a good place to start. I'd look through his Bibliography. Some of W.E.B Du Bois' work might prove useful too.
