If whomever wrote this movie didn't specifically have me in mind, this is a crazy crazy world. I figured they had the protagonist smoke crack instead of weed to make it a little bit more Hollywood. Also, of course, they had to make him white, instead of Latino. But the point is, this movie is about me. I went through something similar a few years ago.
EDIT: Oh, and of course, he has to be a womanizer. Just wouldn't be Hollywood without a steamy sex scene.

I don't think that he was a womanizer, was he? I only remember him having sex with the one other teacher.

Probably the most influential horror film of all time. It's effect on Italian horror in particular is staggering.
I watch too many "indie films" to be able to just name one. That's just how indie I am.
I guess that I'll just go with my favorite film of all time, though: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
Bad Boy Bubby (1993) and La Haine (1995) would probably be runners up.

In the movie, it only shows him sleeping with that one teacher, but he also tries to have a three way with two girls at a club early on in the movie. And towards the end, he has that one coke party with some other women which in the racialized imagery of Hollywood, we're supposed to assume that they're prostitutes since they're black. In any case, you have to read into it. The way these scenes are portrayed suggest a character who is adept at manipulating and using women for sex.
EDIT: Don't get me wrong, though. I'm highly critical of film, even if I really like the movie, as is the case here.

Strickly speaking La Haine is not an independent movie as god a movie as it is.
For true independent movies one has to look to the avant garde where the filmmaker bears the cost of the production and relies on word of mouth, reviews and filmmakers' cooperatives for distribution. With that caveat, my favorite independent movie is L'age d'or by Luis Bunuel.

Anyone know the name of that IFC film with the two guys that rent a storage unit and they build a timemachine thing in it?

I guess that disqualifies Pi. Then I'd have to then say this one for a feature length film:

It's sort of about the same thing, though imo paints a much more favorable picture of the radical left and those carrying out propaganda of the deed against the fascists. It's been a while since I've seen either one, though.

It had a $2 mil. budget, so I don't know if that qualifies as indie, but whatever. If I was to give a movie that had some of the best overall acting from every actor in it, this would be right up there. Every performance is fucking amazing.
