I cannot even get hired as a fucking grocery store clerk!

Came back from college, found out I had a failure to appear to court for expired registration sticker, the court issued a warrant and the payments ballooned up to 500 bucks.

I said, OK, no problem, I need a job. I applied to a "high end" grocery store and they offered me a position contingent upon a MONTH LONG background check; criminal, credit and whatnot. I called them after two weeks and asked what the hold up is, they tell me, they're checking the counties where I lived in during College. Every fucking county I ever lived in which was only three!

The damn warrant doesn't even come up on my non-existent record I checked with the State. So I was wondering just how they found out this information.

They sent me back an email today saying that I was not hired and the email was sent from some firm that specializes in HR and investigations. So the company hired some firm that checks everything on a person, which is why the check took so long and why I wasn't hired, because I have no record.

So now it's difficult to get a job as a grocery store if you do not have a clean record and a clean credit report.

This is bananas. Thankfully a friend hired me and I am cool now. But the complete toolish run around to get hired for ten bucks an hour is absurd! 3 weeks of waiting for nothing!

Anyone else have similar stories? I've heard to get hired for Best Buy at 8 bucks an hour requires something like 3 to 4 interviews!

I've been out of the job market for years and had no idea the absurd hoops they make workers jump to in order to make chump change.

Wow thats fucked up. But ive seen this bein more common, before its was just social-jobs that required this, now warehouses, factorys and god knows what more, that wants to see youre records. Bosses clearly have expanded theire claims for hiring you, might bee because of the increasing unemployment, which makes the choice much bigger, which means that the greedy bastards can be picky.

Y'know, you'd think that it would be easy to pick up at least a shitty job, but the problem in the U.S. today is that there are a lot of people who want those shitty jobs too, making even becoming a dishwasher challenging (at least where I live. And I've heard it's less bad here than in other states).

Nothing makes you loathe your fellow unemployed members of humanity more than filling out an application for some job that pays minimum wage, and having three or four other people walk in to fill out the exact same application while you're there.

The one that's worse: competitive employment. Where they make you 'compete' with other workers to get the position.
...when the position pays minimum wage, and you have no rights at work.

I at least expected it to avoid the trappings of the States.

Apparently, not.

You have too much faith in social democracy.

Remember that todays social democrats are more like social liberals.
