I find both Harry Potter and the lord of the rings boring. Mobster movies on the other hand I can watch all night.
I've seen the godfather trilogy at least 20 times and Goodfellas probably double that. I am not even over exaggerating.

I really liked the third one, but I enjoy all the ones after that because I liked the books - I don't know if I'd like them without having the attachment to the books first.
The first two were crap - especially the first IMO. The series only got interesting for me when they started looking at the wider adult world more. Dolores Umbridge (SP?) is probably the (fictional) villain of the decade for me - she is to education "reformers" what Monty Burns is to capitalists.

I don't know why, but the movie's portrayal of Umbridge reminds me of Margaret Thatcher to an extent (I mean appearance wise).

Characters in the books were semi-awesome, but the actors in the movies are pure and untainted shit. The only movie character you'd like to win is Bellatrix.

To whoever hasn't read the book,
In the Dealthy hallows part 2,
Fred Weasley, Snape, Tom and bob die,
Snape was good the whole entire time, he was acting like an agent,
Malfoy turns good,
Harry gets the cool wand,
And marrys Rons sister,
And they live happily ever after

I think they all the same. School starts, some mystery starts, someone (Voldemort) wants Harry, shit almoust goes down, but then Harry and his friends manage to save the wizards world, just in time for the summer vacation.
The only exeption is the one with Azkaban (the third?) its the only one with a little more advance story, might be because its directed by Danny Boyle, the man behinde Trainspotting, 28 Days Later and Slumdog Millionary.

Or because the book was different?

That's because in the third there are far more significant subplots going on, and the major plot line is somewhat decentralized, creating a more stimulating and dynamic story. The 6th and 7th do this to a degree also. And credit for that goes to Rowling.

Up to the end of the fourth one, all the Harry Potters were different.

I don't think I would have liked the films if I hadn't read the books. They seemed to miss quite a few things out.

I don't like the first two or number 6, but the ones besides that are good. I heard the latest one is wicked hardcore though, so I want to see it.
I only read through book number 5, and that was a long long time ago. And I didn't read them, I listened to them on tape.

The third movie by Cuaron was the best. Haven't seen the latest effort though.

The third movie by Cuaron was the best. Haven't seen the latest effort though.Yeah I enjoyed how that movie made me think it was actually set in England (i.e. shitty weather) rather than the first two where the kids went off to school in Hogwarts which is located on a Hollywood back-lot.
Cuaron needs to release movies twice as often as he currently does. Where's the time-management whip-crackers when you really need them!
