Nothing other than solidarity with the worker's struggles here on RevLeft. It seemed everyone had these great names of "Smash the Bourgeoisie" "Death to the Oppressors" I figured I'd like a name like that, too. The "Bud" is for the everyman--and the "Struggle" speaks for itself.

If any of you commies are feeling irritable, drink linden "tea", an infusion made from the flowers of the linden tree.

I am the only person I know in the USA that drinks this stuff. I usually have to order it from health food stores, but sometimes find it in Lebanese or Arab grocery stores.

I add sugar, which probably isn't a good idea. It has a wonderfully tranquilizing effect. I need a cup every time I read one of ________'s posts. I would say h__ name but I am currently filled with too much love, peace and linden-induced tranquility to start an argument.

In a difficult battle, I tried to write a text message on my phone describing the feeling of being drunk, for future reference:

I am drunk. The situation cannot be described, every second that goes is like it had never existed. All memory seems light and ephemeral, as if it wasn't really happening. All sound exists for one place, and enters through another. Other people can't control their actions. It turns extremely difficult to write this, its like a dream, we can't control anything

I was joking, that wasn't a real picture of me- it could have been though as I posted somewhere on here recently about how someone I know asked me upon seeing it if that woman and I were related. The same eyes, nose and mouth. I have a goober-derp smile like that too. All of this is only apparent in certain photographs of me. A friend called at the last minute tonight and offered me a ticket to a David Waters concert. Called "The Wall," the show is a performance of Pink Floyd hits (Waters was an original member) performed live against a backdrop of anti-war, anti-fascist, anti-government images, some still, some moving, some animated.

The musicianship was superb, but the show was dark and gloomy in that British way, and more than a little disturbing. The show opens with a parade of extras carrying giant red flags across the upper levels of the stage, the flags adorned with criss-crossed hammers. Those hammers appear again in a cartoon of a tormented, alienated, suicidal soul who leaps from a wall to his death. A series of grotesque figures come on to torment him in death, including a stodgy looking judge, a monster woman looking like a Salvador Dali impression of the Wicked Witch of the North, and ... those hammers again. At one point the hammers appear on long, vertical banners like swastikas at a giant night-time Nazi rally. It was an ironic critique of fascism ... I think.

I thought at first that the criss-crossed hammers on the red background depicted united-but-not-communist-workers or somesuch, but they appeared just as menacing to me as did the images of Hitler and Mao. The crowd was cheering wildly, and I wonder if Waters wasn't laughing to keep from crying, as many in that auditorium seemed ready to sing and do absolutely anything he commanded.

At one point in the show, a life-sized replica of a Stuka dive bomber flies across the auditorium and crashes into a corner near the bandstand. It actually erupts into flames as it crashes. The crowd roars, but I doubt they appreciate the analogy drawn between German dive bombers and American apache helicopters in Iraq, which were made to fly over the crowd with a searchlight and bursts of machine gun fire that were most convincing. Ugh ...

As for the music, I would have thought it very dated, but the 19-year olds in the crowd seemed to know every word to "Dirty Woman" and "Another Brick in the Wall." They even had real live grade school kids come out on the stage and act out "Hey, Teacher, leave them kids alone!" while the band played it. I wonder what they'll be thinking about in their classrooms tomorrow. You can see the hammers in the graphic below.

WOW, GREAT SHOW!!!! Sounds like a good time. The Wall is probably one of the great concept albums of all times--and Waters is one of the great lyricists. I think Pink Floyd played that when they took down the Berlin Wall--so I think while the album wasn't mostly about internal "walls" it garnished that old "Totalitarian feel" from that.

Also, a couple of the Wall songs are in regular rotation on Classic Rock stations so "Comfortably Numb" and Dirty Woman" and "Another Brick" are being served up to generation after generation.

Sounds like a good show.

Everyone chooses what sort of actions they do in FaceBook, as well as what sort of information they choose to display

But yeah, Facebook is kind of becoming a monster. Slowly, steadily, but it is. Now its after e-mail (http://techcrunch.com/2010/11/11/facebook-gmail-titan/), what next? Google?

Most of the people I know who have joined the military are women who went or are going into the airforce.

So that means there is a pretty good chance that someone I know is going to be or already has been raped by soldiers.

with the amount of Equal Oppurtunity policies, the massive amounts of money, time, and various programs put into place, and the military tribunals set in place for anyone convicted of harming a female soldier, if something unfortunate occurs, the aggressor will wish he was dead long before his time is up.

Maybe some people in England think there is some logic behind it, but idk what it could be. Also I wonder if there are people who oppose welfare but support the Royal Family. That would be really weird.... There's justifications behind it. I don't know about logic though. It's largely appeals to tradition and sometimes arguments raised about tourism. It's all toss really but the biggest argument for it is one from a sense of resigned apathy to the whole thing.

I don't know if you're joking about wondering if people oppose welfare and support the queen but they do actually exist. They're loons and masters of doublethink but they exist.

Also, I might be going to England soon with a friend. If I went around randomly insulting the Queen, would anyone care? Not really. Although I suppose it depends. To the extent the couple can marry and rule happily, their relationship will serve as a model of domestic felicity throughout the realm. A lot of people don't understand it, myself included, but you see, there are many people who omit the sound 'h' in a word like history, so they pronounce an 'istorical something. You see?

Re the an before an "h"

I was taught at school that you use an before an "h" in English (written) regardless of whether the "h" is pronounced or not hero vs hour etc. Perhaps it's an older formality. In Italian there are some weird things too that no one agrees on much.

We were always taught not to do that, since it is grammatically incorrect (the letter 'h' is pronounced as a consonant, not vowel).
Even my English teachers here at Uni say it's 'a h----'
EXCEPT 'an hour', because there the 'h' is always omitted.

Is 'an' before 'h' still justified?
From Dr G C R Morris
Department of Physiology
Royal College of Surgeons of England

Dear Sir,
The appearance of 'an heroic procedure'
on p 304 (line 13 up), 'an historical... note' on
p 306 (title) and 'an hotel-keeper' on p 374 )line 19
up) in the April and May issues of the Journal of
the Royal Society of edicine suggests an editorial
desire to follow an old school-book practice -
using 'an' before a sounded 'h' when the first
syllable is unstressed....

It seems to be an old "style debate"- given that teaching here was pretty old-style, then it's not surprising we were taught that.

Yeah, but in all seriousnss I've been so sick the last two days I haven't smoked a cigarette and will likely never go back to smoking them ever again. I quit for almost three years using being sick as a jump point. I get sick so rarely that I HAVE to use this situation to my advantage.

A lot of people say 'i won't quit because I'll likely get cancer at this point anyway' but the truth is- yes, you might get cancer anyways at this point but you might live through it- and then get cancer again five years later and die from it.

Russian Finance Minister Encourages More Smoking & Drinking...

Alexei Kudrin is certainly not afraid to say exactly what he thinks. The Russian finance minister raised a few eyebrows this week with his comments about the tax revenue benefits of certain popular indulgences.

“If you smoke a pack of cigarettes, that means you are giving more to help solve social problems such as boosting demographics, developing other social services and upholding birth rates,” Kudrin said, quoted by the Interfax news agency.

Not much, but it does tell that what you wearing is how much you consider what others are thinking of you. If you just wearing big dirty shirt and ripped pants, you are showing you are not caring about moderating yourself and only care about "OMG INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM IS WHAT THE FUCK UP!"

When you are dressing fitted and neat, you are showing that you are respecting other boundary, however the dress code also involve those are lazy.

No, you're showing that you like the way that outfit at that time looks on you. Perhaps it's a sign of confidence. An outward expression of how one is feeling.

When you are dressing fitted and neat, you are showing that you are respecting other boundary, however the dress code also involve those are lazy.

I have no idea what this means. When you're dressing 'neat' and 'respecting boundaries' you are in fact catering to others around you.

However, I can look at someone that likes to dress 'neat' and tell the difference in their style- what they like and don't like.

I can look at Nico De Gaillo and tell a bit about her by how she dresses within that subculture.

I can look at Nico De Gaillo and tell a bit about her by how she dresses within that subculture. The subculture generally have set of rules of what they are suppose to wear and are consider ironic as they are really expressing volunteers-collectivism and not the suppose "individualism."

However, they are dividing so many subcultures just to stay away from the suppose consumerism that into "that" subculture. This is what the capitalists need, "to divide and conquer the people."

Fortunately, revolutionary socialism will change that, to bring all people into each other rather than being enslaved into "reppin'" of region, hood, subculture, etc.

I've had beers with crust punks on one side and a 'well, neat and conventionally' dressed group on the other. They knew eachother better than I did as they were good friends.

My point was- creating culture and expressing it isn't a bad thing. Certainly not in this case anyway.

finally got my thanksgiving 4 day weekend. had to pull staff duty last night, spent the night at work, checking on things and pulling security.

my wife on the otherhand, with some highschool friends of mine who (i went to highschool in texas) live near us in california, went to vegas.

she said she got stood up to the ticketmaster at the Penn & Teller theatre, got free front row seats, took lots of pictures, got an autographed book that both penn and teller took, they took pics with her, she got them to call one of her friends and leave a voicemail, they loved her Heavy Metal (magazine not genre) tshirt, and they gave her their private email addresses.

all while i was making sure the barracks were locked up in freezing mojave desert wind chills.

i have decided to relax myself with a bottle of canadian whiskey and some crust punk. enjoy.
