I am a poor working class student who grew up in an abusive alcoholic family,im in recovery from domestic violence, interested in transforming and abolishing prisons and challenging how we think about violence. Forgive my ignorance, what is the CIW?

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) is a migrant farmworker organization out of Immokalee, Florida. They have won major pay agreements and working conditions agreements from growers and corporations such as Mcdonalds.

I worked on their Taco Bell campaign back when I first started radicalizing - they had a big cross-country tour planned but it was called off because 9/11 happened.

I'm also a fan of the CIW though only tangentially involved.

I attended a demonstration at a Smith's last Thanksgiving. I was the only one aside from the organizers. :(
