1900 (Novecento). Italian film. Bertolucci. With Donald fucking Sutherland. It's apparently a good movie.

1900 (Novecento). Italian film. Bertolucci. With Donald fucking Sutherland. It's apparently a good movie. It's slow - you'll feel like you've aged a century after watching all 4 or 5 hours of it.

It has its points - it is interesting in regards to a generation of pesants dealing with the increasing encroachment of capitalist modes of production into their traditional lives. It also deals with the origins of fascism (or how other sections in society reacted to increasing modernization) with a dash of futurism in the mix. The red characters also work in a communist school for peasants which is cool - learn to read and look at this picture of Lenin we have.

Yeah, now that I think about it, the movie has a lot of good meat in there for radicals with a little historical knowledge of the time period. But it's also 4 or 5 hours... gee with all the fucking movies dealing with fascism, why is the only one that shows fascism as a development to stop working class movements 5 hours so no working people would ever have fucking time to watch it! The same goes for "Che" and "Reds" - what, you can only make a movie about revolutionaries if you make it so long and slow that it ensures that only movie critics will sit through the thing!

Also I'm a Don Sutherland fan... if only he'd done the creepy scream and point from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" while playing this fascist character. Donald Sutherland: the go to actor for all your creepy character needs.

Yeah, I still remember the 'wedding game' scene. But I would ultimately have to say that my favorite sequence is where the peasants stab the shit out of Attila (Donald Sutherland's character) with pitchforks -- truly a classic movie moment!

I like Sutherland too.

There's another good communism-related Sutherland movie called Citizen X, in which he plays a Soviet colonel in Rostov, opposite Stephen Rea. The movie itself was kind of lackluster, but I liked his character and his character's pontifications about the nature of Soviet bureaucracy..

Always thought Trotsky on its own was good name for a Pig. Reminds me of Hogs of War, the Russian/Soviet team were called 'Piggystroika'...

Fun fact: Donald Sutherland's father in law - Tommy Douglas, was a socialist and the founder of the Canadian healthcare system.

:DI could grow to like this thread...Yeah that's pretty awesome - if only we had movements like in the 1970s then Kiefer's roles could be as interesting as many of his dad's were during that time:).

"Imperialist war-monger!"

Instead of performing anti-war skits for US GIs in Vietnam, Kiefer has had to make do playing pro-torture secret agents and hair-metal vampires:lol:.

Meh, that's nothing really.
Mine is a bloody voyeur. When I take a shower, she regularly jumps up onto the framework (enclosed shower) and stares at me. Really creepy.
