I'm doing badly but at least I'm not dead. :)
I'm surviving on my wits, which are not inconsiderable, *snip* Lost my job during the start of the recession 2007.

I have a job but have had cuts and no wage increases for over 3 years (rent's gone up consistently though) - also have to do the work of 2 people now (because they cut everyone back so on many of my shifts there's no one else there and I don't even get a fucking piss break).

We tried challenging the boss on the no-breaks thing, but they have lawyers and having a lawyer under capitalism is like having an aristocratic title under feudalism: suddenly the same laws no longer apply to you and at the same time you can doubly enforce the laws against others.

Barely scratching by, taking it one day at a time.

I'm surviving on student loans and donated food plus a little income from a grading job. Currently my household is trying to figure out to how to stay warm without making us all broke/further indebted.

Barely making it. I keep climbing further into debt due to important matters which are ridiculously expensive (healthcare, car parts, etc.)
I work a part-time job, seeking full-time (small town, bad economy = no luck. Bad car so can't drive too far for another job)
I live in a nice apartment, but I don't like living with one of my roommates. For money reasons though, my girl and I stay.
I have had type one diabetes for 14 years, and just now starting to finally struggle with it's cost. I go to a relatively cheap clinic (compared to a specialist), and get a huge government discount on my insulin, but it's rather pathetic it still isn't cheap enough considering I can barely pay rent and get mediocre groceries on my pay.

Fuck bills and growing up.

Better now. Went almost 11 months unemployed, recently started a new (union) job. Slowly gaining back the economic ground I lost and the much needed stability of a steady paycheck.

Yeah, I definitely would watch what you say on here considering the fact that we are literally under surveillance.

Guys, we're not that important actually. Considering it's the same twelve threads over and over, I think whoever the guy is thats assigned to this site probably fell asleep sometime in 2005.

Anyway, I just got a job at Dunkin Donuts working for an Indian family. "Mike", "Andy", and "Rita". They're cool, but the patriarch of the family, Mike, is an uber-capitalist anti-union type. He apparently was a very rich stock broker in India, he was cheated in a business deal and lost all his money, and moved here to start a Dunkin's.

He's one of those people I know I shouldn't like but I do, just because he's personally really cool and generous.

Anyway, I'm getting by. Thankfully I can stay at my parents for a little while and save money, then I'm paying off about 6-12 months of rent with my saved money up front for a super-cheap cubby hole (not joking here) in a suit with my boyfriend. It's a 5x5x5 box basically, but at least we can chill in the rest of the house when it's not sleep or sodomy time.

Student loans and grant money and got myself a seasonal job.

its not that great though. loans and grant money is hardly enough to cover everything and this job, im getting less than 10 hours a week at minimum wage.

Doing ok I guess. I split all the bills with my girl & my bro so I can save some money for the future but not as much as I'd like. Also as much as I hate my boss he likes me so he laid off 2 other people and kept me.

I woke up this morning to 4 different Bay Area news papers declaring an end to the recession. 'CA ads 39,000 jobs' they all said. 'The recession is over!'. I wonder if the small spike in employment has anything to do with Christmas/retailers hiring seasonal employees? Ya, those are permanent jobs that pay living wages....pfft. Humbug, I hope Christmas fails.

Alright to be honest. Luck has been patting me on the back, not kicking me up the arse.

I guess I am doing OK, but that's because I am taking a huge gamble going back to school. If I do not get a good job after college I am royally screwed.

Arrrr... I hate that shit. This is what people who defend capitalism by saying "look wages haven't really gone down or 10% unemployment isn't so bad etc" miss entirely. A lot of working class people have jobs but jobs where they have too few hours to actually support themselves and so many have to take on two or more of similarly shitty jobs just to make what they could if they were doing a full 40 hours. So instead of one job with full benefits, people work 2 jobs for 50 hours total (or more sometimes) and get no benefits... because they only work part time:rolleyes:.

There are a lot of people like this. I love some of my co-workers personally, but when politics is brought up... holy shit, all hell breaks loose.

im actually thinking of taking a year off from school and just working 2 or 3 jobs if possible. yes, im hogging jobs(if i can even get them), but its better than building a huge personal debt.

i am hoping to get held onto after seasonal employment so i can get some sort of resume going.

There are a ton of people in worse shape than me. I ride a motorcycle everywhere (52 mpgs from a $600 bike isn't bad, especially when you commute the distance I do), working full time minimum wage so I can continue to be a full time student, and generally saving as much as possible.

For whatever it's worth, I find that politics can be just as *unifying* as *controversial*....

To put it simplistically it can be like agreeing on the weather or other aspects of the outside world that are interesting to us, and are mostly outside of our everyday control. Since politics, like the weather, exists in a 'complex' state, there's always the possibility of discovering one aspect of it in particular that someone else can relate to, or finds true. *Or*, one can show off one's ego by going on about what it is according to your viewpoint.... Both approaches can *both* be pluses or minuses, surprisingly, depending on the person and the circumstances.... And, like anything else, it can simply be an *ongoing* basis for conversation -- so the weather can always turn, in other words, for better or worse....

Oh christ, you meant the economic recession. I thought you were talking about my hairline.
