I just started to think about the way capitalists increase demand artificially. What especially puzzles me is the exact methods they use, and can they be used as valid arguments. One good point my father made was how in certain parts of the globe (especially more corrupted hollows) corporations lobby for increases in industrial standards. An example would be standards in cleaning equipment which would force some workplaces to order their cleaning services from outside parties, even if they could in reality clean themselves. Or the more outrageous example of governments enforcing new curriculums every alternative year, even in subjects where advances have not been made (at least on a level that would validify the update of an entire curriculum). This is made partly because of the request of publishers, some of which practically live on annual sale of course books. (this example is a fact, we librarians know )
What I thought however, that is this done so often and so outrageously that it would count as a valid example of capitalist decadence? Afte all, some trades absolutely require standards and other acts that can increase demand of other goods and services. Any examples on artificial increasing of demand? Marketing? Branding?
And what about artificial destruction of production? Apartment markets are the only example I can think of right off the bat. You know? The way they destroy empty apartments regardless the situation of homelesness.
Also, this kind of touches a subject I am writing an article about, so any concrete examples and reliable sources are appreciated.
And regarding sources: can anyone point me to a reliable news source about an old incident I heard rumours about? It was about the M1 abrams tanks of the US military, and rumours about them being designed to break easily in order to force US government to order more of them.
