Lower Saxony's minister of interior continues his hardliner course. Uwe Schünemann (CDU) envisions his "17-point plan against the rising terror threat", to be presented at the Conference of the Minsters of Interior on Thursday, to lead to a "national action plan for inner security." He assumes broad support.

Schünemann emphasizes the need for a "stronger police presence in Islamic districts, to send a clear signal against religious clan structures and control systems."

Some other goodies of his plan include a cellphone and computer ban for Islamic "threats" (individual humans), preventing these same "threats" (individuals) from visiting "radical Mosque communities and problem districts", and a cooperation between Mosque communities, police and communes.

He further calls for increased surveillance: Federal police should be allowed online searching of private computers and preventive observation of telephone calls and mails (not like they wouldn't, illegally, do it anyway).

The minister of interior of Lower Saxony introduced preventive, suspicion independent Mosquecontrols earlier this year.

Only a deluded loon could think this would help reducing islamic militancy...

And is islamism really that prevalent in Germany?

If you believe the Media, yes. For one we have millions of "not integrated" (according to Merkel) Turks.

We had a Mosque closure this year, with the reason of it being a "radical mosque", as well as the "Sauerlandgruppe" who evidently (?) planned terrorist acts and one of Hamburgs biggest Mosques has been notorious for being a meeting point of the 9/11 group.

Other than that, I really believe he is just preaching to the terrorscare, racist and Turokophobe choir, which is quite as big in Germany if not bigger than in the rest of western Europe - and also was prior to Sarrazin. It only got bigger after.

Also I foresee that, should these be passed, they will soon be used against "extremists" as well, meaning: Leftists.

On a related note, the Bavarian delegation of JoG (Youth without Borders, a German refugee organisation for youngsters) was searched on the way, and Lower Saxony's division was prohibited travelling to a big demonstration in Hamburg calling for all refugees to receive right to permanent residence (related to the protests against the Conference of Ministers of Interior).

It's the same story again. Like a burka ban for the like 3 women in Sweden who are wearing the burka, and the public they love it. I think it's the part of Swedish culture which makes Swedes go all fap-fap-fap when someone is bullied and ostracised.

Nice one Germany, you're going to alienate the Muslim population, and possibly create more radical Islamists...

Scapegoating of muslims continues across Europe, all seems somewhat familiar.

My history isn't too good on this subject but didn't turkish migration to Germany greatly benefit the economy?

Not that I'd know. Turkish migration started very late. What you are thinking about are the Italian Gastarbeiter, those benefited Germany a lot in the post-WW2 years. They are also usually accepted amongst the "German" populace.

The funny thing about Turkish migration is that many people uphold the opinion that Turks are "flooding" Germany, when in fact, since a few years (roughly since the Terrorscare and Islamophobia caught on here) there are more German Turks migrating to Turkey than Turks migrating to Germany.

My thoughts exactly. The more muslims are under attack, the more likely they are to want to fight back.

It's also yet another example of anti-terror laws which can be used against activists:

Isn't Turkey/the turkish population in general one of the more 'liberal' muslim countries/communities?

Mass immigration of Turks to Germany started in the mid 1960s.

We recently wrote an article (http://en.internationalism.org/node/4015) on this subject.

Some of the stuff I've heard about marginalisation of Turks and muslims especially in Germany blows my mind. I thought that people living in the country that spawned the holocaust would be more vigilant, but this is just absolutely disgusting.

What does it matter? Many Germans dislike Turks, many dislike Muslims, many Turks are Muslims, the German media and politicians constantly talk about the "extremists" threat - left, right and Islamic "extremism". Perfect powder keg for repression and racism.

Germany has had a big nationalist and racist renaissance since the reunification. Anti-Turkish racism, Anti-refugee xenophobia and Anti-Ziganism are especially "in."
