I've been trying to tell people that the US is almost a third world fucking country in some regards. I've seen typos in the Houston Chronicle, my town's major paper, corruption is rampant, illiteracy is high, the news is beyond sensational, like stuff I've seen in Latin America, etc.

The country is really resembling a third world nation in a lot of ways. At least in the same vein that I remember visiting Latin America. If you take out the worst slums in a country like Chile or the former Bloc Nations, the US would match it pretty well.

Religious fundamentalism reaches levels here that I never thought possible, almost akin to poor rural communities in the Middle East.

If you really look at the subtleties like the weird article that was posted on here and ignore the super patriot propaganda, it's pretty evident that at the bottom level, the US is exhibiting all the social ills of a third world nation.
