I honestly wouldn't mind living in Norway, not sure where exactly, probably as southerly as possible due to the cold. It looks like it may be one of the few places to go to escape the disastrous demolition of higher education in the Netherlands. The idea of not having to pay tuition sounds pretty attractive, really. It's also a prosperous place with lots of natural beauty. Scandinavian countries are also said to be desperately recruiting Dutch immigration for some reason.

Europe.
But more specifically....
France:Either in Paris or the South of France.
Spain: Northern Spain, near the Pyrenees, but not too far from the Med Coast (I like living near the Ocean)
Italy: Tuscany has always sounded nice. Lots of art and cultural stuff there, a person like me's wet dream so to say. Though honestly I think i would go South of Naples, into Calabria, where my family is from and live on some rustic vineyard.
England: If I did, I would live in London, mainly because it is a city and to be able to get to France easier. But visting the rest of the place wouldn't be horrible.
As for places in the US-
Maybe southern cali, near a beach.
Atalanta is the only place in the south I actually enjoyed living, unfortunately its been nearly a decade. :(
NYC is just awesome, but I think i'd still prefer the old world charm of European cities.

Can't understand why people want to live in Norway, is so cold. Sure the welfare system is in a class of its own, the unemployment rate is low and education and health care is free. But its not worth it, so much snow and so cold and dark its so depressing, summers are great though.
I would like to live in Viñales, Cienfuegos or Trinidad in Cuba. Its not a workers paradise but, the climate is great and the scenery is nice.

BarcelonaBarcelona really sucks as a living place. I spent 2 days there and i already had enough of it. It's full of mugs , it's expensive , too noisy , too crowded , bad food , kiosks , lousy metro , too many suspicious characters , drug dealers. I guess football and beauty of the city are only virtues
i would live in :
Ljubljana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ljubljana) , Slovenia
Wuppertal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wuppertal), Germany , for being so green , and for ultra-cool flying trams

I mean , this is just WOW !
Glasgow
Dublin , or some small town in Ireland
Some backwater in Sweden or Norway
Some backwater in Cuba
Some very sneaky but well supplied backwater in Vietnam , surrounded by jungle with shaded lake in the middle , where sun doesn't interrupt the peace and harmony of nature too much , full of cheerful warm and helpful citizens who only like to make love with each other , make tasty food , live modestly , playing simple but relaxing music and so and so ......

It becomes extremely tempting when one's own government is about to push through a €3,000 increase in tuition fees if you have any kind of delay in your study, or if you want to do a new study after graduation, as well as turning your student grants into a loan as soon as you have a delay. To go from that to fully subsidised uni with no tuition at all sounds like heaven.
Of course, they do say that people in Scandinavia are rather "closed" with regards to strangers, and attempting to settle there on your own can get pretty lonely. The most obvious solution is to study there for a year first and meet a beautiful blonde. Of course, the problem here is that once that's accomplished, I'll probably have incurred a gargantuan study debt back in Holland...
What are we going to do about that? Well, I'll probably earn my money as a whaler, giving a big finger to environmentalist whiners back home. A pretty attractive aspect of Norway, to be honest.

San Fernando. And no, I'm not talking the San Fernando Valley, I'm talking San Fernando, VZ (Venezuela). Travelled there a couple years back, and loved it. I think it's much better than Caracas because the Capital is too noisy during the day, and exhaust from the cars give me a headache. Plus San Fernando is right there on a river, and between two national parks that are pretty sweet to mess around in too.
Other places
Madrid, Spain
Cordoba, Mexico (I would say Veracruz, but that place is too American/European Touristy for my taste.)
Papua New Guinea (because I'd probably be the first Mexican ever to touch New Guinea soil. :p)

Places I would like to live, in no particular order:
Still in England, but further north. There are many reasons, not only is it cheap but I've personal reasons for wanting to be there. Plus the accents are funny and I can wow the locals with simple technology
Amsterdam. I visited the city when my sister was living there and I love the place. The tram system, for whatever reason, was a particular highlight for me. There's also, obviously, the whole smoking thing but I'm not a huge stoner or anything so it's not the city's primary appeal. Of course I'd be one of those pricks who moves somewhere but doesn't speak a lick of the language, hopefully I'd pick it up.
One of the warmer parts of America. I've always wondered what living in the good ol' US of A was like and I hate the cold so... I'd probably end up in a state where being a bisexual anarchist wins one few friends, however.
Bandar Seri Begwan, Brunei. I remember it from my childhood, nice place although the government there has banned drinking - still it's a short hop over the border to get wasted and/or smuggle me back some hooch and my booze making skills would be handy too. I also spent some time learning the language, it's all but rusted off but I reckon I could get the lingo again if I tried.
Tokyo, Japan. Not for a long time, maybe six months to a year but I'd really like to see what all the fuss is about. Then again I hear they don't take kindly to foreigners so giving it a miss might be smart.

Best bet is saving at lesat 3 months worth of rent beforehand so you don't get stuck without a job, and get roommates. Doesn't matter if you have friends who want to or not, there's always people looking for roommates in NYC. Brooklyn or Queens are the cheapest, Queens being best. Expect about 800 a month if you're renting a room in a suite with like 3-4 other people.
I'm renting a crawlspace in a suite in a few weeks, 400 a month! Downside is, it's about 4 feet hight, 5 feet wide, and 15 feet deep. So it's just a place to sleep basically. But Ima make it comfy, opium den style.

Fine, take the states with populations. I love Omaha (hometown), all the random cities in Iowa (Davenport, Iowa City, Des Moines) and Kansas City (the Missouri side is better...)
The badlands are so awesome, but I left out South Dakota for the mere smelliness that is Sioux Falls... actually, I may be thinking of Sioux City (IA). I forget, nor' do I want to remember that smell.

If I had no commitments, no family, and no one I needed to visit, probably somewhere in Alaska along the coast, a house with giant windows.
If I was obnoxiously rich and didn't care about privilege, a palace in Key Biscayne, Florida (with a speedboat landing, of course).
But, more practically speaking, I'm a big fan of colder rural areas, beaches, and mountains (a bit of an odd combination, I know). I generally am not a fan of "big" cities (SF and DC are exceptions). So: Minnesota or Wisconsin, San Diego or Santa Barbara, Vancouver or San Francisco. Oaxaca's very nice as well.

To me it is important to live somewhere with blue skies. Here in Ankara the sky is virtually always blue, even in the winter. When I go somewhere like London I find the 'grayness' very depressing, and wouldn't like to live there permanently (though I did in the 80s). I would also like to live near the sea, which I don't at the moment. I would prefer to live in a reasonably big city. Also language is a consideration as I am too old to be learning a new one, so I would choose somewhere with English or Arabic as the main language.
On those criterium I would consider Beirut, Alexandria, or Sydney. If I moved within Turkey, I would prefer to move to İstanbul, İzmir, Adana or possibly Mersin. Of course work is an important element.

Denmark and Sweden are shitawesome. That's pretty much it. Though Denmark is expensive as fuck. I'd guess Malmo would be one my overall favorite cities - a couple of cool leftist locations, a large supply of vegan food, actually far larger and more accessible than any other city I've been to, rather cheap all in all, big university population (counting in Lund), a beach, a nice park, very close to Copenhagen. All in all, pretty awesome, yes.
Of course that's only the infrastructural side...never lived there.

Aaah, then i see, however you should know that the region of Skåne (where Malmö and Lund are located) is a bit different then the rest of Sweden and they tend to have a much more younger population and many active leftiste scen, which means that they are not repressentative for the rest of the country. Anyway Copenhagen is awsome!

Well yes, London is the same but more so. As much as it may be a shock to Americans London is more cosmopolitan than New York.
Did you think that everyone in England ate boiled vegetables?
The advantage that New York has over London is that it is cheaper. This is good if you are a visitor, but if you are living in New York in a low wage economy, it probably balances out.

I live in a port city about 30miles from seattle, and have lived in seattle briefly in the past. I'm originally from philadelphia, though.
I don't know, I actually prefer seattle to the city where I'm living now, but that isn't really saying anything. but the whole puget sound area is gloomy and grey all of the time, especially the industrial centers. I've never been there, but I've spent a lot of time in NYC. New York has a larger and more ethnically diverse population than London has (supposedly you can hear over 60 different languages being spoken in New York on any given day), so I'm skeptical about the notion that London is really a better place for food. The prices may be better, though.

Actually my data was outdated. I checked again and supposedly 800 languages are spoken in NY. :D
Anyway, about 40 percent of NY's population is foreign born, but even within it's 44 percent white population there's a large variation, with Italians, Irish, Germans, Russians, Poles, Hungarians, assorted Eastern Europeans etc. all having their own rich histories in the city. I'm not sure if it is the most diverse city or not, but it's certainly in the top 10.
