That's a good idea. Start a thread 'Change the users name above you' and they have to keep it forever.

This would be interesting in situations where the user's name is already ridiculous like 'Dougal_McSpray_Farts"

No one should be allowed to change their names unless they come up with something brilliant like "Vaginal Residue".

i am around 2-3 years and i never changed my name.

i think at least those who change their names often, they should at least introduce themselves, lets take gran rojo for example, who was the reason i started this thread cause every time he changes his name he got me confused. If he wanted to say hello he should do it this way:

BR:Hello

Or else you all should have been banned for illegal hiding of identity

Easy, i would name the 20 or so i like with good names, the 4-5 i dont like with shitty names, and just add an automatic numering system name the rest of you :p So beside those 30 people, we shall be talking to people like, hey 0005, hey 1037 etc.

Everyone needs to applaud synthesis.

In truth changing one's name is a bourgeois extravagance. Such requests should always be treated with hostility and disdain. I pop in and out of this forum every now and then and I am always confused by the name changes. Meeting People is Easy should not have changed names. Dyermaker is synthesis???? Why??? Malte is now Edelweiss, MADNESS!!!!!!! I yearn for the good old days. Back in my day you had one name and you kept it. If you didn't like your name that was too bad, you just dealt with it. Newer posters these days have too many choices, too much customization. You're never satisfied with anything. In my day so much as a name change request could land you in the gulag for a few months. In the earlier days of this website we had consistency and recognition. People didn't try to confound and confuse each other with these superfluous name changes. It was a purer age by all accounts. The universe was in synch, there were no wars, no hunger, no want and no need, peace ruled the board. We used to call that time Pax Che, it was a true paradise. Once the name changes were authorized by the powers that be it all went down hill.

In all seriousness I don't like the name changes but I'm not about to support firing squads to deal with the problem.

Il Medico

I think that a stricter enforcement of the rules concerning name changes is necessary. Many don't even keep their old usernames in their sigs for the two weeks they are supposed to.

Those that don't do that should have their old username as involuntary member titles for 3 months, or something. Alternatively they should be put on a special 'blacklist' and not allowed to change their names again, ever. Bwahaha.

Are you making notes, fuserg?

Now this is a good idea. How about Brother/Sister? Edelweiss would be Brother #1, and so forth. :)

Even better idea: charge the restricted members money for the use of the board. If I don't misremember, this was actually once seriously proposed by someone with the following reasoning: We need money, we have a message board. They are the kind of people who think it's ok to ask money for services, and they want to use our message board..

In practice it would of course kill the OI, which is our second most active forum -- ie bad idea. But it's justification is logical in the extreme.

 That was me. You don't think Bud Struggle, Havet and maybe Robert or Publius would toss us a few bucks to post here? It would keep out the "balaclava" types. The main problem would be that it would provide an incentive to restrict people.

When cool people change their names occasionally, it's not so bad. However, when everyone is screaming at you to put your old name in your signature and wondering who you are, it may very well be possible that you're just not cool enough to be remembered.
