Hey guys, I'm doing a term paper on heteronormative agendas in public high schools and how faculty and staff are not intervening when homophobia takes place and/or if the teachers use homophobic rhetoric.

I'd like to get some actual stories or experiences on it. If anyone wants to "partake" please post. I can use your name, or not, it's up to you. I'd just like to have actual events of homophobia in the public school system to back up my claim (and it doesn't matter what country you're in).

Thanks!

Two homosexual males were kicked out of our homecoming dance for grinding on each other (no qualms about heteros doing it).

It's a daily occurence for gays (single or couples) to be tormented by verbal taunts or jostles in the hallway. Teachers see and hear it (numerous complaints have been made) yet nothing is done.

I experienced constant reinforcement of gender roles from, among many other people, my wrestling coach in high school. "Puff your chests out like men" and stupid shit like that. Of course there was a constant reinforcement also of heterosexuality as being "the norm" by both teachers and students, but it was so prevalent, it's actually kind of difficult to pinpoint a particular experience I had. In spite of my open non-heterosexuality and my gender-bending, I never really experienced a huge amount of bullying or harassment at the hands of other students in school. I think the main reason for this is -- and I'm saying this at risk of being viewed as a total tool -- I was part of a group of friends that were, for lack of a better term, the fuck ups and "bad kids" of my school, and that was kind of psychologically intimidating to some I guess. Keep in mind, this was by no means my intention nor did I ever consciously do anything to cultivate this status, I was always just thought of by my peers as "crazy" or something like that. And feel free to quote me if you want, my name's Tommy Stang (OH NO!!!!!!).

I'm not sure if this counts, but people in the school I went to used the word "gay" constantly as a derogatory term for anything that they didn't like, and I remember when my friend came out as a lesbian it was seen as very gossip-worthy and people weren't all that nice to her.

Shit, even though I'm a dude, and she'd probably think me disgusting. I'd have made friends with here right away. Lesbians always have interesting stories to tell me. :D

Yes, cause lack of sexual attraction = disgust in other sexes.

I didn't mean it like that. I do have homosexual friends (both male/female).
