California State University (http://topics.sfgate.com/topics/California_State_University) students say they will be out in force today to protest an expected 15.5 percent tuition increase at a CSU trustees meeting in Long Beach.
Undergraduates (http://topics.sfgate.com/topics/Undergraduate_education) would pay an extra $654 a year next fall, and tuition would reach $4,884.
The trustees also expect to raise spring tuition by 5 percent.
Graduate and credential programs would see similar increases.
The trustees' finance committee approved the increases Tuesday, with student trustee Nicole Anderson (http://topics.sfgate.com/topics/Nicole_Anderson) casting the only "no" vote.
CSU says 180,000 of CSU'S 433,000 students pay no tuition and receive full financial aid.
After Tuition hikes already made earlier this year, more have been slapped on.
The cost of living, especially for students, is rising far faster than wages. Things are starting to get more intense.
