I've heard this book is banned from Cuba, and I was wondering if anyone had any information on if it is, and if so, why?

I've heard this book is banned from Cuba
From who???
No, but they do enjoy locking up and killing people that dont agree with the government.
Examples? I don't want to have to defend Castro but I'd atleast like some articles about this, I'm always interested to hear about violations of civil rights in "socialist" countries.

'Killing people' I don't think so. They, however, do 'lock up' (not the word I'd chose, but still) counter - revolutionary forces. I'm sure they don't 'enjoy' it, but it is necessary since they don't want their country to become another US - whore. As simple as that.

I heard this from several news sources (all western), I was just asking if it was true, of if anyone had any information on the subject. Not insulting Fidel or anything.

hmm interesting... in various documentaries I heard that actually Cuba does ban books;
However I think the reality is a bit different, because of the embargo, Cuba imports paper and subsequently books at an expensive price. So paper there is expensive and rare. Most of the books they sell in Cuba are second hand books

The U$ ought to be scared of Communism, being as they are all Capitalists (the opposite of Communism). Most people are scared of people who are right, when they are wrong and when they threaten their prefered form of government.
Incidently, I had a dream I was a member of a Communist Revolutionary Army, but we didn't have real guns we had to use our fingers and pretend to shoot our enemy who ever it may have been :huh: , anyway onto the bit that links in with the bit about people being scared of Communism, for some reason we went into a classroom full of Capitalist kids and they had loads of books on the bookshelves by Marx and Lenin and other Communists, etc, anyway there was this one person I remember she wouldn't go near us, whereas everyone else was ignoring us, and I said "You don't need to be scared by Communists!", it's not that interesting really is it?

It wouldn't be in Cuba's interest to banm 1984. It would draw more attention and therefore criticism than merely letting people read 1984.
The same questions can be asked of most countries, actually the authoritarian regime would probably be more prominant in America today.
Cuba locks people up, so does everywhere else, but as for anti-national ie terrorist actions, I think the hysteria lies firmly with the U.S. and the U.K.
