Obama has been part of the DLC (Democratic Leadership Council) for some time now- back in 2004 his chief of staff wrote a book "The Plan; Big Ideas For America"- in it he laid out a slew of shitty corporate ideas that would make your head spin. A mandate to but privatized insurance was one of them.

All of the details don't really matter, at the end of the day, concentrated wealth is going to be the no 1 benefactor of the state not the people but if you read Rahm Emanuel's book the details are kinda scary. Very Orwellian.

Yeah, this was also talked about on The Young Turks. It's been known for some time.

I would like to point out though, that it's not the Republicans that Obama made his deal with, but the industry lobbyists. Let's note just who has the power in Washington.

This should be big news. Even while President Obama was saying that he thought a public option was a good idea and encouraging supporters to believe his healthcare plan would include one, he had promised for-profit hospital lobbyists that there would be no public option in the final bill.
