How many remember them, or have even heard of them in the first place? They were ground-breaking pioneers for queer visibility in Sweden, but as they sang in english they were also quite famous abroad. It was the work of public persons such as Jean-Pierre Barda and Alexander Bard, that first successfully challenged the power of the heteronorm in this country.
The musical genius behind the band, Alexander Bard, nowadays has the band BWO (Bodies Without Organs). A couple of years ago I had the surrealistic experience of smoking a cigarette and engaging in small talk with Jean-Pierre Barda, the old vocalist of Army of Lovers (the dark-haired guy), as he was promoting his brand of sunglasses where I work.
I wish I could have told him how much his work has meant to me, but sober as I was, I couldn't.
Wiki Article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_of_lovers) on the band.
