View Full Version : Leaving the Country

Greetings all. I've been away from this forum for awhile, but came back to post
this:

I am currently enrolled in university in the States and have realized I cannot put up with life here any longer. I am in an educational institution. But, for what? In theory, to seek and gain knowledge, but I do not see it that way. I wish to learn from experiencing and living. I feel trapped in this place, and I know there are so many other places I could go. So I plan to leave.

My plan consists of this: continue this semester and the next, and work in the summer. I have a protected job that pays very well for something I am interested in (photography). If I live with my parents and do not spend any of this money, I will have enough to travel by September. I also will be encountering some funds that I will use for backup if I am ever in trouble.

I will be travelling with my best friend to Peru. After researching, I found Peru to be the best country for travelling on a budget. It is cheap, beautiful, as well as the drug laws being lax.

You might ask, what will I do?

Since I will be spending at least three months here, I wish to travel, do my art (photography), and see the beauties of Peru. Instead of being in school and going to class, I will be trekking the Andes and spending time with natives. Ideally, I wish to find some income in the country so I may stay indefinitely, or return at will.

I know this may seem idealistic, and some comrades will dismiss my plans as counterrevolutionary, but I believe this is the right choice right now in my life. I suppose seeing another part of the world will make me appreciate my existence in the States when I return. But for now, the superficiality and current state of America is causing me to leave. I am posting this because I am interested in any advice my fellow comrades might have, or any problems you think I may encounter. I appreciate any and all advice.

-Peace.

This isn't really the kind of thing you need to politicize, in my opinion.

I am not trying to. This is purely a lifestyle and spiritual choice, however, I posted on this forum because I know there are comrades on here who have experience leaving the country, and who could potentially give quality advice.

Figure out much you will need for your whole trip, then take twice that.

I would look into getting a work or labor trade or volunteering to do for some or all of the time.

I would second that, if you are going there enjoy it and do whatever you'd like to do. However look for some volunteer work, it may become something productive for both you and the organization.

You might want to look into getting a Work Visa also, besides just volunteer work if you're looking to make some monetary income. Because for a lack of a better term, you'll be seen as an Illegal Immigrant of sorts, looking for work in Peru. (Which might be the first ever in Peru. :p just kidding.)

If you decide to go be careful, any sort of traveling can be dangerous...

thanks for all the comments...i have thought about volunteering and working. One of you said I should have a trade. I am going to mainly work on my photography, do you think that would have any substance in Peru? Also, I wouldnt mind doing manual labor or anything just to get an income.
