Anyone else a fan of the film or Bertolucci's work in general? I enjoy his films, this one especially.

I like most of Bertolucci's films especially the earlier ones, but after Last Tango in Paris his work becomes increasingly uneven for me.

I thought The Dreamers was interesting but not up to Before the Revolution the picture that's closest to it in theme.

I like The Dreamers, but I think that 1900 is much better (cough cough, and I wrote an article for it on my Leftist films blog: http://leftisminfilm.wordpress.com/2009/10/04/novecento1900-1976/ )

I've mentioned it in another thread, but for me it was The Conformist.

Bertolucci's early works seemed prosaic to me, Before the Revolution and The Spiders Stratagem, certainly not bad films but they didn't stand out.

Certainly his two masterworks, unopposed are The Conformist and Last Tango in Paris. Both are marvellous. It is clear how much Coppola borrowed from Bertolucci when making the Godfather.

As for The Dreamers I loved the nostalgic nouvelle vague theme and to me it was in part a good portrayal of 1968 but I felt the pacing and the second half of the film let it down.
