I've squatted but never taken food from dumpsters although I see nothing wrong with taking advantage of capitalist over production.
Squats can be really nice or really shitty I've been to some where people have been there a while and made the place really nice and improved the state of the property. I've also lived in some with no electricity no water and in a really shitty condition.
My family has a history of squatting:) my Granddad after WW2 had no home and a pregnant wife so he and his brother went along to a disused air field with a pair of bolt cutters, opened it up and moved a lot of local families into some of the hangers.

So many products gets thrown out of stores, ALOT. Its like a free take-self table. Fucking overproduction and scarcity-maintaining. One of the good things about the 2 Zeitgeist movies is when they talk about the burning of crops to maintain the price. Sick, the whole thing about feeding peoples in Africa when all the food that gets thrown out could feed the planet and even the galaxy 5 times or something, im not sure on the later though.

I did dumpster diving a few times. Not doing it atm.
Never squatted, but I'm highly sympathetic. Sadly, there haven't been any squats where I lived previously (well there was one that lasted about 2 days and one that got evicted before I became active). There are some where I live now, but they are either closed groups with high "security culture", or culture/arts centers.

I've been skipping (dumpster diving) before. It was good because I got lots of free food and most of it was pretty good but anyone who thinks it is in any way a political act is seriously deluded.

I've dumpster dived behind a Tim Hortens/ convenience store once before. I found A LOAD of doughnuts and CRATES of NOS. I was drinking 4 nos everyday for 2 weeks.

I've done both, because at the time it was easier than renting a place or paying for food.
